Add your EV to the electric car map

I think I'll stick with EVALBUM. Hybrids are excepted and bikes of all types.
It is much easier to search and navigate.

Something is overheating?

The controller is probably the main culprit. They are normally designed to start shutting down as the temperature starts getting up.Powerful external fans will help that. Also on a long trip the motor will be getting VERY hot as well it's good to have a powerful fan pointing into the commutator sect...

AGM Resolutions 2015

Just to clarify a few things... At the moment, the structure is: - National Committee and Councillors (Constitution Rule 45) http://www.aeva.asn.au/wiki/constitution - Branches (named mainly after the major city of the state). Motion 1, if passed will change the branch naming to the state or territo...

Daihatsu Charade EV project, advise please.

If you have hills, the 60Ah pack would get stressed by the large motor current when going up hills - especially at a low voltage of 96V. If you want your pack to last a while... I would suggest 160Ah.

I think they look great as is. I'm sure the Adelaide people coming to the AGM would purchase one or two. Should be four of us.

If you are thinking about the VOLT - be quick, as they are not bringing the new(next) model to Australia.

Hybrid vs EV - Forum thoughts?

David, I have done both... In 2008 I began my Holden Barina EV conversion. This is totally EV and have been driving it now for nearly 5 years, without a drop of smelly fuel. I have now (almost) completed converting our 2008 Toyota Prius to "Plug-in". Using a "10KW" kit from Plugin Supply in Californ...

Auxillary circuit help please!

One thing to remember is that if you are only using one contactor, with precharge, the only thing that is to be connected after the contactor is the controller/motor. In my conversion I feed the main battery pack via a circuit breaker then to the DC-DC converter and the input to the contactor. ie. T...

J1772 in conversions

The black & white bit is the J1772 connector (as in GS1012) mounted on a box which contains the pilot signal circuitry.
The GS1020 is meant as a portable interface for those with 3 pin plugs on their converted EVs to be able to make use of a J1772 charging outlet.

J1772 splitter to 3 x C14 or 240V 10A socket

I think I good point to remember, is that the car only takes as much current that it needs. ie. if your car charger needs 8 Amps - that is what it supplies.
The 32 Amp rating is just the maximum. Remember, it's just a glorified/specialised 240V outlet.

Engine Noises - not just for Evs

Hi Richard, I got mine ages ago at around $US150 including postage from Sweden. Mine is the basic model without the amp - so I added a separate amp and placed a weatherproof speaker under the car - where the exhaust box used to be! You can put your own sounds into the unit, they supply software to d...

Hi Adrian, Welcome to the Forum. One thing to remember is that with a NilCO2 kit, this replaces the Toyota factory fitted battery (as I understand it). One of our AEVA members in Adelaide is working on adding in excess of 10kWHrs of additional cells to his Gen3 Prius. He is using the Control boxes e...

Hi Christopher, What I do, is, for a permanent connection, use a soldered joint with heatshrink, I have never used insulation displacement joints in a car. To make a connection that can be disconnected, I use bullet connectors, usually red ones for normal (18g) wiring, but I use a high quality crimp...

I know it sounds silly, but check your wiring again... If you have wired it exactly as per the last drawing above, the contactor cannot operate prior to the precharge finishing, because there is no earth connection for it until the contact closes on the lockout relay... Normally when you turn an ign...

Hi Terry,

The Captcha should not be there - it seems to appear after a server update.

I will ask our Webmaster to get rid of it and report back.

You will have to establish a new login for the AEVA website.
