Ultralight PHEV x2

I tracked this down before I realised that the Standard PHEV didn't have Wi-fi. Might help.

I agree. I can't find any laws prohibiting generator running while towing other than common sense ones like secure cable connection etc.

I'll chime in here. To get enough torque to be any use the motor is going to have to be a minimum 132 frame. That is 132mm from shaft centre to mounting - or edge of motor (270mm diameter minimum). Placing that behind the transfer case is going to put it just about centre between the front and rear ...

Fully Charged: Nissan Leaf 30Kwh

Thanks for the report Jason. ECO mode is intended to de-power the accelerator pedal somewhat (as well as air-con) but really only has any great effect in stop/go traffic - for most drivers. You are absolutely correct in trying to keep power low. In my DIY I try to stay below 18kW (just because 18kw ...

Chademo charger for the Outlander?

I've yet to meet a PHEV owner (maybe you're the first?) who doesn't want an "EV only" button, because watching the power gauge is painful. Even once mastered, you always miss out on that last 5kW as you don't want to get too close to the ICE point.... Yes - perhaps I am. You have to run ICE every f...

Chademo charger for the Outlander?

It will be interesting to see why they bothered with an EV only mode and what it actually means.
In the 2014, unless you sink the boot in or run out of battery - it's EV only anyway.

How many ev/phev owners and drivers/riders

Ha ha. I had one as well and got stuck trying to get up a hill in the wet. Had to get my German Shepherd to go right to the rear and drop there to get some traction (he wasn't happy - he liked to peer over my shoulder when we were moving). That didn't work either. Ended up going back and around a lo...

Minicab MiEV

Accumulate a group of folk who want bits.
Appoint someone mechanical to go to Japan after arranging a garage for a couple of weeks.
Buy a few, strip them, get a shipping container, pack it.
Repeat every now and then.

You'd have to include the inverters own round trip efficiency yeah, charge off peak to support peak loads is a bad plan Currently true, however most of the electricity suppliers have put forward schemes to attempt to cut peak load by heavily penalising users who exceed their average usage by (inser...

The DRED system

When we had the Nissan LEAF during the Victorian EV Trial they supplied a DiUS charge station. One of the tests DiUS wanted to do was shut the charger down temporarily via the Smartmeter (Zigbee) for half an hour during the night. They did this successfully. That was four years ago. I'm surprised ho...

Don't worry - I have discovered the Remote Control via Phone App is an Aspire only feature. I'll set up another externally timed outlet like I use for the Vogue.

I have been unable to connect to the PHEV with my phone. The Door closed, ACC, 10 times On/Off doesn't appear to have any effect. Is this system just for the Aspire? We have the ZJ.

Buying a used Outlander PHEV

Funnily enough we just bought an Outlander PHEV and picked it up yesterday. The ZJ - not the Aspire. It had done 12,000km and still had the efficiency stickers on the windscreen. The dealer had 5 of the ZJ 2014/2015s in Arctic Silver (colour that we liked). Between 12k and 21k km. Lacking an OBD2 do...

New PHEV experience: "Maintain Fuel System"

Unfortunately the PHEV is the only OEM EV in Australia that can officially tow (which along with its extended range is why I bought one)... I know this is an old thread but I wonder how much you have towed with the PHEV David and how it went. We are just about to buy one to tow a 1400kg Caravan so ...

Test drive of Outlander PHEV vs Prius V

The review says the Outlander has a selectable electric only mode. I'm pretty sure they don't, which seems silly when they manage to offer one in the Prius. Someone has even built an aftermarket accessory to give it one. Just driven normally it's in battery electric mode. You have to force it into ...

Converting a 2010 Honda Jazz to electric

Hi Merc and welcome. For 140km range it looks to me like you would need around 24kwh of batteries. To get that pack into a Jazz without exceeding GVM most likely you are going to have to remove the rear seats which will give you another 160-180kg to play with - and some room. Is a 2 seater OK? The J...
