I see that the factory alarm function is not activated by default. I fired it up this morning and it works a treat. I'm not sure why the blue led was fitted in the first instance but the alarm has it's own red led in the cluster.

Still learning with this new truck...!!!

To enable factory alarm on 2010:

1)    Key in LOCK position, Headlights off, drivers door OPEN
2)    Pull on wiper lever to wash and hold until buzzer is heard (wash will not run)
3)    buzzer will stop. Continue to hold. Now grab Key fob.
4)    Press "unlock" on key fob. 1 beep indicates "alarm inactive" 3 beeps incite "alarm active"
5)    Select 3 beeps and release wiper lever.
6)    Alarm will arm 20 seconds after locking. countdown beeps will be heard inside cabin.
7)    Note new RED led warning in cluster..!!

On 2012, sequence doesn't pass step 2 so not an option.

Ditto with 2011

Looks like mitsu removed some functions with the 2011+ models

Eg
just tested auto windows up and down this evening at paceway mitsu.
LED lights
reverse beep inside car, similar to prius.
smooth leather steering wheel
standard sat nav
I can possibly see why the 2010 imiev cost $60k
it would be similar to the 2012 LEAF.
nissan now makes a lower cost version.

Anybody figure out how this works for the 2012 model? (Sorry, I still don't have an owners manual.) The specs say "Anti-theft encrypted engine immobiliser" is Standard so I'm guessing I've got it. But I've got no idea how to use it.

Not necessarily Laura... My bike has an engine immobiliser, but that just means it wont start without the right key.

while both 2010 and 2012 models have immobilisers, the 2010 only has the alarm function...

Okay. I just need to figure out how limited "right key" is. I might get a cheapo key cut (without the central locking) and see if it works. I wouldn't mind a spare key but think $100 + is a lot to pay for one!

Yes, but it will need the immobiliser transponder in the key.....

Yep that's where the magic happens. Not sure the technology behind it as my key doesn't have batteries, but it must somehow know it is a factory Kawasaki key and not just a screwdriver jammed in the ignition.

Hmmm, that's a good and bad story. Sounds like good anti-theft magic but it means I need to pay Mitsubishi a small fortune if I want a spare key. Oh well, just one of those compromises there's no point in fighting against.

Laura you should of gotten 2 keys with the i, one with central looking buttons one without.

Laura, run of the mill Honda keys are over $300 so the Mitsubishi one isn't too bad.

I honestly don't know what a spare costs. I was given one key with my "new" 2012 iMiEV (the 2nd key was lost somewhere in the 2 years the car was parked wherever it was parked). The dealer agreed I needed a second key so ordered it for me at their cost (I had no idea how generous that offer was). The key is ready for me to pick up but I'm not sure when I'll get to the dealer (an hour away) to collect it plus they said I needed to make a 3 hour appointment to have it keyed to the car (seriously? 3 hours????). So I phoned a closer dealer to ask how much they'd charge to cut a key if I had one to give them. They told me a) it couldn't be done until after Christmas (presumably because it takes 3 HOURS) and b) it would be ... (I forget exactly) $150. So I said thanks but no thanks. I thought a $10 key from Bunnings or wherever would tide me over. Apparently not.

One day I will have a 2nd key but until then I'll be very careful indeed.

and yes the extra key with central locking wasn't cheap.

it's worth asking your dealer if the local to you dealership can do it for you. some of these guys get along some don't. most of them seem to be owned by the same company anyway.

I asked and I was told that they are separate companies and so I could only get it for free at the dealer where I bought my new/used car. So I'll make the trek there in the new year. The question is what will I do with myself in the suburban hell where the dealer is located for half a day? They do have a nice Thai restaurant so that will kill an hour....
