IEEE Seminar - Electric-Drive Vehicles - March 2

Electric-Drive Vehicles - A Technology Update including Recent
Experiences from North America

Date: Monday 2nd March, 2009
Time: 5pm
Venue: Room 622, General Purpose South building (#78), Staff House Road,
University of Queensland, St. Lucia campus
Speaker:
Dr Andrew Simpson specialises in technology and policy for
electric-drive vehicles (EVs). His began his career racing
high-performance solar cars across Australia in the late 1990s. His BE
(Hons) and PhD were received from The University of Queensland with a
research focus on assessing the technical and market potential of EV
technologies. Since leaving Australia four years ago, he has worked in
the USA to help bring EVs to market - firstly as a postdoc at the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado, and then as a Senior
R&D Engineer at Tesla Motors Inc in California.

In this seminar, Andrew will provide an update on the market readiness
of EVs and their supporting infrastructure. He will identify some key
players from the industry including vehicle manufacturers, component
vendors, electric utilities, regulatory bodies and startup companies. He
will also share some lessons learned and comment on opportunities and
barriers faced by EV technology. Overall, he hopes to promote an
informed discussion of the potential for EVs in Australia.
No RSVP is required.

Any chance of a brief summary from anyone who attended?

Anyone know an address for Dr Simpson so we can ask for a copy of slides?

Edit: I'm trying agsimpson05@msn.com now.

Andrew was kind enough to reply and sent a copy of the slides used in the presentation. I think you'll find them interesting; I haven't had a chance to look at in detail myself yet. At the very least, there are some great pictures.

It's a 1.3MB .pdf file, available here.

See also this AutoSpeed article based on Andrew's seminar. It seems to have more detail than just the slides.
