Looks like you entered the circumference where you should have put the diameter.

That makes so much sense now.

So 6 to 1 is what I want but in the real world you can't get much over 4 to 1. I wonder if a 2 speed diff would work?, or if I can even find one that is small/light enough. Or a standalone transfer case like what's in a lada niva.

I'm thinking that while a direct drive to a diff would be neat, keeping the gearbox will be a simpler way to go.
I do have a plan for keeping the original box.
I'll get some pics happening and explain my plan to let you all weigh in and call me a numpty.

I haven't seen anybody say they like these motors - I haven't looked recently tho..
The motor by itself seemed overpriced for what they are.
But as a motor+controller combo it is probably cheaper.

For anyone trying to get to the clutch on a mini or moke I feel sorry for you. Pulling the ring gear off was an absolute bear of a job. Its on there tight, like really tight. Like I had a puller on it and was using a good rattle gun to wind in the puller bolt, left it under tension soaking in wd40 over a weekend pulling the trigger on the rattle gun every few hours and hitting it with a gimpy tight.
I ended up using a cuss word and threatening to dob it in to its mummy and it decided to come off.

i am a mini nutcase at my finest i had 12 full and running minis (only 2 on the road) and about 15 in parts and shels

so i know that motor setup well

Engine out and transfer case refit.
Here is the drive off the crank. The crank shaft passed through the middle to the clutch which then drives the spline round the outside.

That cog floating at the top is the other end of the splined bit the clutch drives.

So my plan I'd to weld a coupling to that from the clutch side and mount the motor where the clutch was. Exactly like most other installs.
Then I simply put a cover over the rest of the gearbox,

Doesn't the crankshaft act as the bearing support for the drive gear/spline piece that passes through the seal in the case? There would be a lot of pressure trying to force those 2 gear sets apart so it would require a quite substantial bearing surely?

Im actually a little more worried about the axial force from the gears pushing it all apart long ways rather than the gears spreading away from each other. Im not sure how much thrust the motor will take through the axis.

I'm guessing this is why one conversion included the crankshaft so the load could be spread over the length of the crankshaft via the main bearings and thrust brg. Possibly 2 Timken tapered roller bearings facing each other with a spacer between them providing the required preload/endfloat because ball brgs don't like side thrust and the tapered bearings increase the load area within a given space.
Another possible idea is a straight shaft with brgs and a thrust brg in mounts machined into a plate that both make up the gearbox cover and a mount for the electric motor. Then an additional reduction between the electric motor and one end of the quasi crankshaft and the original reduction at the gearbox end. This way different ratios can be experimented with to get what suits your use patterns without needing to strip the whole thing down each time. The electric motor/quasi crankshaft end would be in the space the radiator originally filled in the ICE set up.

Also started pulling the dash apart as well as I plan on redoing it to suit the extra displays etc. And to make it more user friendly / pits inspection passable.

Oh and I gave a plate of aluminium to be made into a rectangle with holes around the border for part of the cover for the gearbox to a work experience kid at my work... I need another aluminium plate...

hmm idea rear wheel drive and battery's in front and sides to balance the weight out correctly

She'll be front wheel drive in this iteration, however an upgrade to 4wd may be a long term option.

@Adverse Effects, can you see any of the images on this page, or are they all replaced with the "Image" text placeholder?

I just tried taking on your privileges and I could still see all images on this page, so this seems not to be a permissions problem which is one of the theories I had been investigating.

I just logged in this morning and all the pics in the thread took ages to load (thanks NBN) but the last pics didn't, they just said "image". I then refreshed the browser (I'm on Android mobile and it's chrome) and they all loaded up straight away, including the last ones.
Maybe it's timing out while loading or something?

hmm ok so i just went in to the code of the page and found the post in question
i manually went to the links of the pics and the first time on each it didnt load just stayed blank screen
but when i refreshed it several times they came up ok (forum software not sending them at times???)
now i can see them in the post like they should be hmmmm

More likely the browser thought it had that image cached, so no need to request it from the server. It can sometimes be very difficult to convince a bowser to forget a cached item. Usually control-F5 does it though.

Me1507 motenergy ac motor with a sevcon size 6 controller set up for 100v
And the kit also comes with a contactor, isolator, display, throttle and a couple premade cables
