Tritium fast chargers

I wonder what it is that makes fast-charge points generally so unreliable? Compared to a petrol pump there are far fewer moving parts, so in theory they should be very simple and reliable. Is it substandard manufacturing, ,inadequate grid support, or something else...?

Who said petrol pumps are 100% reliable? How many times have you spotted a note or orange plastic cover over the gas pumps handle (out of order)

My guess is the issues we see with the fast chargers are safty fualts that perhaps will improve as they tweek the units to cope with the conditions they are operating in. A bit like a security camera you might need to turn down the sensitivity, and tweek a few things to stop nuisances alarms.

Fair point about petrol pumps, and it *is* new tech, though not particularly complex. What I think would be a good move (and one I think we'll see in time) is fast-charge points being more like servos, with multiple "pumps". If one goes down (or is just busy / ICEd, or whatever else may crop up), there is some redundancy. It also makes the charge points prominent, so easy to find for the driver and highly visible to ICE owners, which can only be a good thing :)

I'm now at Wollongong and the UoW Veefil is giving an error 39 and saying the plugs aren't available. If there are any tricks to resetting it I'll be in the area the next few hours.

Feng - did you get the charger working? Any photos of the charger/site?

Was thinking of trying it today.

g4qber - what do you need to do to power cycle the Veefil - "Get some security nuts and power cycle" needs an explanation!

Thanks,

may need to get permission from uni first.

get this driver set
https://www.jaycar.com.au/the-power-dri ... t/p/TD2035

undo the 3 large nuts on the CCS pod side,
then undo smaller hex nuts on the bottom right service hatch cover
turn off the switches
wait for 2 mins
turn back on.

this doesn't work at UWA at the moment
"not in service" icon
remains

current - error 16

would be interesting to find out if elsewhere in the world have these errors
WA Veefil is prolly the beta test site for Tritium

firmware has been updated so that one can press & reset the e-stop button to power cycle the unit.
Thanks to Jayson for this tip.

good to see Aussie tech getting out into the world.

new model charger to be installed at UWA 2nd week 2018.
will have CCS2

"Dear DC Station Users,

As you have already seen, the DC station at the Uni Club is still down and after several
repair attempts Tritium/Veefil have given up and decided to replace the station with a
newer model (after all, our station was the first CCS DC station in Australia).

Unfortunately, this means further delays, as Tritium does not have any spare stations
at the moment. At this stage we are looking at week 2 of Jan. 2018 to do the swap.

Sorry for this extended delay, but hopefully we’ll end up with a better product and a
more reliable solution.

Regards,
Thomas Braunl

New CCS type 2 / chademo Charger now more reliable apart from err 22 which usually means that chademo is not correctly connected.
