Hi all,
I just finished writing up the results from another round of LiFePO4 battery testing - this time two 38120 sized cells from Chinese manufacturer Headway:

The Headway seem like nice cells at a relatively low price, I can definitely imagine them being used in EVs. Here's the links to the other LiFePO4 testing I've done, for comparison:

The main reason I started doing the tests was to find a way to build a high power lithium pack for racing applications. I've got ThunderSkys here at the moment for the MX5 and they'll do for now, but the nature of large prismatic cells means they're only good for about 3C continuous. For racing I believe you'd need 10C continuous rating as a minimum. Lots of the 18650 and 26650 sized cells are fine at 10C or even much more - the only tricky part is figuring out how to assemble several thousand individual cells safely into one large pack!

Thanks Ian. This testing has now become VERY interesting for 600V AC systems with Headway making the cells into 20Ah packs - both 48V and 60V. They have even proposed a solution to BMS with a 600V system. There is more in this thread in case you missed it.
