Just bought a second-hand Volt

Post by Peter C in Canberra » Sun, 21 Jan 2018, 06:07

Hi,
I just bought a second-hand MY13 Holden Volt. It is doing very nicely. It drives smoothly like an EV. I have only a couple of times noticed a very brief hesitation and wonder if that is one of the clutches in the Voltec arrangement doing its thing. Our petrol car is leaving home with our daughter. This will be our long range car now and, being plug-in, it can also replace the short range car I converted 9 years ago. The conversion will, I hope, also go to a good home. We will keep our Mitsubishi iMiEV as our other short range car.
Cost $25,000 with 86,000km on the clock in immaculate condition.

I took an early morning bus from Canberra to Sydney, did the familiarising, test drive, negotiating and paying through the middle of the day, then drove home to Canberra in the evening.

It turned out that the 'hesitation' was the stability control briefly grabbing the brakes on one wheel. Some time before we owned the car, the steering wheel had been put on not quite straight so on some corners the car would think the amount of turn did not tally with the different rotation speeds of the wheels so it would try to correct the slipping that wasn't happening. The Holden service people fixed it quickly and easily and the car has driven very well ever since.

Good one to know, I wonder if that is why the previous owner sold it? Not something you'd think about being a cause for such a problem

Maybe. He seemed to be very straight about making sure I understood all about the car. The reason he gave was changed family circumstances meaning that he needed a bench back seat with three seat belts.
