Airbag recall

Post by redcane »

Hi all,

It looks like the Takata air bag recall affects 2010-2011 i-MiEVs.

https://www.productsafety.gov.au/news/t ... -consumers

I'm going to be calling the local dealer later today to see what is up.

Cheers,
Mark

Airbag recall

Post by mikedufty »

I called paceway about the previous recall this week, and they suggested I might want to wait and get the airbags done at the same time. Apparently they don't have stock of the replacement part, but will send out a recall notice as soon as they have the parts in. They suggested it would be a few months. At least it is only the passenger side.

Airbag recall

Post by redcane »

Oh - I didn't realise it was only the passenger side. We rarely have someone in the passengers seat (usually just kids in the back), so that lowers the urgency a bit. (Also not planning to activate the airbags).

I think I'm up to date on the other recalls at this point, but it would make sense to get them all done at once I guess.

From Mitsi web site
Takata airbags passenger side only.

iMiEV GA/GB Build Dates Feb 2010 to Dec 2012
VIN JMFLDHA1WAU001714 to JMFLDHA1WAU002896
VIN JMFLDHA3WAU003201 to JMFLDHA3WAC000349

That is mine included. There is the key switch to disable but then chances are ....

So has anyone had their passenger side airbag replaced under the recall ? What was the experience ?
Does any service centre in WA have replacement airbags in stock ?

Tried the dealer again yesterday and this time they said it is currently an "advice only" recall. She suggested that it may end up only requiring an inspection. I haven't investigated yet whether it is possible to get replaced at your own expense rather than wait.

Or if feeling litigious you can join a class action. https://www.airbagrecall.com.au

I called Paceway and they said they still think it will be 3 weeks before they get parts so they aren't taking bookings.
Tried Melville Mitsubishi and they booked it in for the 11th. I guess I'll find out who knows what they were talking about next week.

Thought it seemed too easy. Melville mitsubishi have now done the other recall, but said they had to read the serial number off the airbag to order the parts in, and won't have it for 7-10 days. Still better than Paceway's wait 3 weeks if they are correct.

Joseph, did you get anything done at Wanneroo?

Passenger airbag replaced at wanneroo Mitsubishi
Obd socket was upside down and now looser.
Somehow there was some white plastic break off bits left behind on front passenger carpet.
Requested to be charged.

So
-Wanneroo Mitsubishi can replace the airbag in a single visit
-Melville require an inspection, then return in 2 weeks when the part arrives.
-Paceway say not to even bother for 3 weeks as no parts are in the country.

And this is the easy one, next I have to try to get the airbags in my grey import Delica done. I wonder if the minicab i-miev has the issue too.

Mine was done on Thursday at Melville Mitsubishi, first i-MiEV they have done. They actually called in the morning to say it was harder than they thought and they would need it overnight, but ended up putting an extra mechanic on it and getting it done the same day.

Had mine replaced last week, first time my local garage had to do an iMIEV, took them a week were supposed to charge me for pickup and delivery $36, but I reckon they decided after messing me around for 4 days it was best not to.
I-miev it in MY10 with extras!
