10 modules wouldnt be cheap!!, Did you get a BMS too??. Lipo's are definitely more bang for buck. I have tested my scooter using 12 5s Turnigy 5000's. 84v hot off the charger. Set the current at 80amps and things look promising. Gets to 60-70km/h easily enough. Waiting on my charger before i go with the 75v 36ah setup. Just watch the voltage sag using 3 in series.

Ahh so up around triple the price. I'll continue to see your progress. Might look at doing something like this in the future. For now lipo's will do. Might retire them to the bike later down the track

I will see how the lipos go. To get 60 ah need 15 cost $1300+500 at least for chargers. Did you have 4 x5s to give 84v. I did wonder if 3 x 6s would be too low voltage.

Depends on your low voltage cutoff on your controller. One of mine is 60v the other 70v. Yes 4 5s in series to give 84v hot, 3 in parallel to give 15ah

I have a Sabvoton 150A controller which like your e-bike controller is much simpler then the original Sevcon. Did your sparkie provide a wiring diagram which I might peek at?. I'm tempted to cut the covering on the main wire harness and see where they all go and remove all the superfluous wires. I will wait until I get power to controller and see which wires are essential.

Just down the workshop manual for the xm5000. You only need 2 positive and 2 negative wires. Others for onboard chargeing etc not needed

MiniBMS is a surprising choice - is there a version you can buy that has the right shunt and HVD settings for the leaf modules? (4.1v and 4.2v respectively)

If not, might be worth looking into a programmable BMS such as the Zeva or Tritium offerings

They have a minibms for leaf/volt cells at 4.2 hvc

I have got the bike going now with 3 x lipos. I have sorted out the electrics with ignition, DC converter and 12V system working. I have paid for the leaf modules today so should be here in 6-12 weeks. Took me a while to get controller working as the motor doesn't have temp sensor and controller needs 1K resistor betwwen temp wire and ground to stop motor over temp error. I did strip the electrical covering and removed lots of unused wiring. I have good understanding of the electrics now. I have looked at The ZEVA BMS which looks good and is about the same price as MiniBMS and is programmable. Tritium don't sell BMS now. Aim for Rego in a few weeks.

I can't get the reverse button to work. Won't be able to test regen until have rego.

I have the bike registered and working great. The 12ah lipo only give me a range of 12-15 km. I actually over discharged the batteries once (Had to push bike home!) and buggered a cell which I have removed so running on 17 cells now (2x6+5). That was a useful learning exercise. Bike has top speed of 90-95 with 75V which should increase with 84V Leaf cells. Reverse nad regen are working. The bike is quite fun to ride and goes well.

I am currently running bike on Lipo cells with maximum voltage of 67 volts at full charge. the top speed of the bike with this voltage is about 78 kmh. With 75 volts it was about 90 kmh. I also ran it for a while with 50V and it had top speed of 60kmh. Interestingly, low speed acceleration doesn't feel to change much and I beleive is more closely related to amps.

I have finally installed 10 x nissan leaf batteries. Cost delivered was $1910. I am currently wiring up zeva BMS. I have gone for a couple of 35 km rides which uses about 50% of battery capacity. My controller gives motor over temp error after about 25 km and bike stops. I'm not sure what this means as the bike doesn't have motor temp sensor!.

port charges start at around $1000 for a small box and go up to $5000 for a sea container

If importing batteries from overseas, make sure to fill out a sea container to make the excercise worth while

I looked at importing 24 CALB CAM72 cells from them as they quoted $400 for delivery with DHL. I didn't go throught with it though as they woundn't confirm this was door to door delivery (their invoice said FOB - free on board which means you have to pay for GST and all costs to get them off the boat.

I have now done 4000km on the erider with leaf batteries, mainly the 45 km return ride to work. Max distance I have riden is 70 km which used 48 ah and took module voltage from 4.1 to 3.5V. Very happy overall. I am riding bike much more then I thought I would. Happy with leaf cells. I managed to add resistor to TC charger which allowed reduction in HVC to 82V.   Image

My erider recently caught on fire when the controller failed and the bike has significant damage. I have salvaged the 10 Nissan Leaf batteries which appear fine. I have a charger for these battteries and Zeva BMS (Except for main control unit which was burnt: available from Zeva for $135). Total cost was $2600 for this. If anyone interested in buying these let me know. I would accept $1200. I have recently bought a low Km Zero DS 2014 to compesate for my loss!.
