This is not really a reply to myself but an extension of the subject.
On today's most reliable NEWS site, there is a report from the US and it pertains to where modern cars are headed with their technology.

We know how much the phone makers, telcos, government, own our phones and comms.
We know how much the international companies own our computers.
The ABC news item refers to vehicle connectivity.
What I want to say is that it would be great if there was a vehicle, in the style of LINUX, which was basic, used fairly ordinary components which ONE DAY are upgraded if you hang around long enough, but which get the job done and does it YOUR WAY, within its narrow boundaries

My main theme is that industry is quickly owning us with standard technlogy and I feel particularly uneasy about it. There's no avoiding it but there needs to be a path less travelled.
