The map looks great and the plans are great.
$450,000 is pocket change when you consider what public infrastructure projects cost now days.
When you consider what gets spent on projects that see little use.....
"Figures revealed during Brisbane City Council budget sessions have confirmed almost $3 million is expected to be spent on the bike hire scheme in 2013-14 against forecast revenue of $1.3 million."
Think of it this way you would only need 450 EV drivers to fund $1,000 (the cost of a simple EVSE) and we could make it happen.
We have the manufacture In Brisbane wanting to install its product.
I think the stumbling block is the limited customer base at the moment. How many fast charge capable EV's are registered in SEQ?
I will take a guess that it's way under 100 cars?
Or is it a build it and they will come thing?
I'm going to start getting surface rust on our imev's DC fast charge contact pins unless we get a fast charger soon.

it's not just finding the money it's also finding a home for them, from shopping centers too worried to about loosing customers over sanitizing 1 or 2 parking spots for EVs, to being unable to find the actual body corporate for permission. having to deal with only using approved workers. so the bigger the site the larger the approval process.
even tesla are having problems in australia finding places that are open 24/7 to host the superchargers.

The issue with all the reports is they use words like "is" "will" When it sounds more like the reality is they should have used words like "hopes" or "would like"
The first report I linked to laid it all out with a date that it would be happening "in time for the G20" like it was a done deal.
They really need to present the story they way it is. Just a proposed plan.
I get the feeling perhaps the reporters writing the story are the ones who are making Tritium look silly .

Other than Toowoomba I don't see why train station car parks couldn't be a option. Especially if they were not privately funded.
I was under the impression the units based on a pay for each charge system ? I can see why that wouldn't work with so few customers at the moment. I can't see it being the best investment proposition.
It would have to be a non profit installation. As it boils down to . What are we installing? ....(A DC fast charge) what can it do? (charge Electric cars that are DC fast charge capable) how many Dc fast charge capable customers do we have in SEQ....(perhaps 100)....back to the drawing board.

i like jack from EVTV.ME idea
put the charges at Coffey shop type of places and there free to use with a sale in the shop or nominal payment at the shop to charge

The cost to use the charger has to be competitive if not less expensive than the cost to drive your Ice car. If it was going to cost you $22 in fuel to drive a 200km return trip then your geting there on your own $2 worth of electricity and coming home on their (...$) worth of charge. Say a small car like the Imeiv would be sucking in 10kwh or so from 20-80% SOC about $2 worth of electricity at domestic rates. So a $5 charge wound be ok for me as it will still be saving me $22 - $7 = $15 over taking the ice car. Though like you said if $3 was your profit to pay off a $50,000 charger its going to have to be a draw-card for another potential spend.
Chicken before the egg again. We just need more ev's on the road. No private business looking for any kind of profit will purchase a fast charger to provide a service for such a tiny market.

The availability of fast chargers for occasional trips could make it viable to not own an ICE car though, so paying $20 a couple of times a year can be attractive compared to annual rego costs of an extra car, or the extra cost of a hybrid.
Still needs more electric cars around though.
They say petrol station make most of their profit from the food and drink sales, so charge stations which are a bit slower could be more profitable than petrol, if only there were enough users.

Does that means EV drivers (and passengers) on long trips will put on more weight than their ICE counterparts?mikedufty wrote:They say petrol station make most of their profit from the food and drink sales, so charge stations which are a bit slower could be more profitable than petrol, if only there were enough users.

Please note that the UWA Veefil unit has a possible issue with its start and stop buttons.
They tend not to respond when pressed.
Upgrade is scheduled for next week.

pic of BMW veefil.
http://ozleaf.proboards.com/thread/423/ ... ollTo=6568
could be coincidence but sometimes UWA Veefil seems to work when the Max button is pressed simultaneously with the start/stop buttons.

Is there a 2nd veefil in Brisbane now. I have used the one out front of BMW but some one mentioned to me the other day there is a 2nd one that's been installed in Brisbane? Perhaps they where just referring to the one at Tritium's office?

I read a piece recently that inferred the Tesla supercharger format is more robust than chademo. I've only have limited experience with Sydney's one & only chademo but on the 8 times I've gone to use it in the last year its been out of action on 3 of 'em.

Isn't calling a. Charger a (chademo)a bit of a generalization.
Isn't it just a plug style and communication/handshaking standard. The guts of the power electronics could be good or bad depending on who makes the chademo charger?

Talk about teething problems.
Lucky it's the one close to their head-office!
Have there been problems with others too? I wonder whats causing it.

UWA is not close to their office it is in Western Australia
this time RCD was not tripped
Unit detected that Grid power was not reliable hence the err 39.
Dave Finn will consult with his team whether unit should be so picky about the power quality.
As per Dave's instructions I've reset the unit via web portal.
Veefil seems to be a bit like Apple. Things have to be just right for apple products to work vs PCs will work with rubbish quality
ie. PCs have greater tolerance limits.
eg. DVD-RWs had TDKs a few years and they would work OK with PC burner but not apple.
