EV Sticker for Number Plates

Post by Johny »

I had a response today from Vic Roads online enquiry system (submitted enquiry on the 7th Feb). No, they don't provide EV stickers.
The folks who run the Vic EV Trial kindly sent me out two of their stickers - now I have to decide whether to replace my 47 year old number plates before sticking them on. Vic roads want $149 for a set of black and whites.

Edit: damn keyboard - won't type what I think

EV Sticker for Number Plates

Hi all - Bryce here (new to AEVA, but have been working on/doing EV conversions for about 5 yrs).
I took the quick and painless route for my recent EV purchase and just had some made. Did 5 sets to meet their minimum order, have 2 sets left. Rugged reflective stickers made to the VicRoads reg. If anyone wants them - cost me $8.80 each, you can have them for that.

48B Electric powered passenger cars
An electric powered passenger car must have
fixed conspicuously to the front and rear number
plates a label that is—
(a) made of durable material; and
(b) at least 25 millimetres wide and
25 millimetres high; and
(c) mounted as a diamond; and
(d) reflective blue; and
(e) marked "EV" in capital letters at least
6 millimetres high.
Is this specification on the Vicroads website? I can't find it. If not where did it come from?

Happy to help Leigh!

Will post a notice if the EV group do a batch as a (small) fund raiser. (Not a lot of call for them it appears from the fist batch I funded as a test :)

Hi there - is that 4 stickers = 2 cars worth, or 4 cars worth? Either way, I'll see what price he'll give me for getting a bigger batch made. Will work out the price per set and get back to you. (NB: price will be worked out on cost + $2 for the EV group).

Hi all - have had enough requests to justify sourcing a new set of Victorian spec EV number plate stickers. Turned out to be a bit cheaper in slightly larger quantities!

One pair for $10, including postage.

All profits to the EV group. (Not sure we'll make our fortune selling them though). :)

Happy to do EFT, Paypal or Credit Card, whatever is easiest.

Hi Wellsey - might be two problems here: the stickers are VicRoads spec, so not sure if they are suitable for Canberra? Other is I am not a business, am getting them made/selling them on behalf of the ATA Melb EV branch - we don't have EFTPOS or PayPay!

Cheque or cash is about all I can offer.

If anybody wants some, either post here or PM me. Will then PM my home address for sending.

(Will try to make it to an AEVA branch meeting one of these days and bring them then - but Fridays are a bad night for me!).

Maybe when you come to the AEVA AGM & the Canberra International EV Festival in October we can catch up then Image

It would be good to get AEVA members from around Australia to visit or better still bring their EVs with them. This years is the Canberra Centenary so we're trying to make the event as big as possible.

We've had EV owners from Sydney and Victoria bring their vehicles in the past, but more the merrier.

Brad

Hi Bryce --

I realise it's been a while, but if you have any of those stickers left, I'd love a set.

I asked at VicRoads when I re-registered my Blade Electron from NSW to Victoria a few days ago ... and he didn't have a clue ... and there was nothing on his computer.

I found this on eBay ... made in SA ... but illustrated using a Victorian number plate ... I bought them before I realised Bryce had made some ...

Electric Vehicle "EV" number plate stickers TWO (2) 30 mm wide each ($8.00)

Just as well they were on a Vic number plate as they aren't the correct ones for SA..........

From Jan 2019 new evs in SA must have a blue triangle (pointy side up) with white lettering EV on each numberplate

The National Transportation Commissio has created new vehicle standards for all electric and hydrogen powered vehicles. Vehicles manufactured after 2019 will be required to affix ID labels to their number plates. Link below.

This will be up to state transport bodies to implement.

This thread started in Feb 2013, now Oct 2019 and in all this time no one asked the ONE obvious question... WTF ???
I just bought a Kona and just found out totally by accident that my number plates are incomplete to the point where I could get a fine ???
I'm on the phone to Hyundai Monday morning to ask for some explanations. I do have a special sticker with a 3D barcode on the windscreen. I hope that is the new system because I won't be happy if Hyundai did not supply a compulsory safety sticker that make me take the risk of a fine, or worse, in case of a major accident.
Not happy Jan,

Yes, I pointed this out to Hyundai several months after the start date. The guy I spoke to acknowledged that the cars on display were not compliant, and he said they'd have to fix that.
Are any of the other car companies complying with the law yet?

I emailed Hyundai last night about the EV diamond stickers, here is their response:

"Hi Patrick,

We are aware of this. Vicroads are out of stock of these and have no been able to provide them since the start of the year.
We will enquire again and if are able to obtain some will be in touch

Thank you"

I don't expect much but in a few weeks if nothing happened, I will point out to them that any fine I receive will be forwarded strait to them.
Cheers,

Hi Patrick - I have offered them to the dealers, but they appear uninterested. :-(

FYI: VicRoads have NEVER had them.

Contact me for a pair. $10 a set posted. Profits to AEVA.
