Donor car - Eunos 30X

Post by Electrocycle » Tue, 02 Feb 2010, 01:41

gah, forum just failed and lost a giant post...

ah well,
a while back I picked up a Eunos 30X with the intention of getting it registered in ICE form, and driving it round for a while until I had parts / funds for an EV conversion.

It looks like I'm not going to have the funds for a fair while, and it's turned out to have a few ICE related issues that mean I'd have to spend more than planned on getting it road worthy as is (worn valve stem seals, worn clutch, some sensor issues). It does actually run and drive, just not as well as I'd like.
I even replaced a couple of tyres and the muffler to make it more road worthy.

I think it's a pretty good EV donor, being not too heavy, having a large engine (physically anyway - it's a V6), and decent battery space.
I've always liked the style, but not the Mazda parts cost and reliability issues!

I'm only looking for around $1000 for it, so it's not an expensive donor.

no, not presently registered - or I'd be driving it :)

I'll probably put it on ebay soon, but thought I'd see if anyone on here was interested first.
I'd be happy with anything over $600 or so. I need the space!

or if anyone knows of a *really* cheap battery pack I have a few AC motors and now a possible VFD :)

It's a Dynavert, from a lift (might have a bit much lift specific firmware). 42kw peak
Not sure if it works yet, but it does power up ok.

I also have the power stage from a similar VFD, using a Semikron SKIIP IGBT module (1200v 150A x6)

The NZ EV guys have an open source controller (Tumanako Inverter) for the SKIIP module which is working but unfinished. Very nice find!
Planned EV: '63 Cortina using AC and LiFePO4 Battery Pack
