Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
We have just traded our Vitara on the 2021 ZS EV - in red.
Due late January apparently.
Any tips gratefully received.....apps charging etc (we have a Model 3 SR+ with wall charger)
We are now free of the oil industry.

I doubt the HPWC will charge the MG as they are supplied locked to Tesla with M3.

Get type 2 version of GS1025 adaptor and you may be able to charge MG using HPWC
Larry Mudd @larrymudd2 was able to use type 1 GS1025 and a type 122 adaptor to charge his Kona on HPWC with TPN ending in 02-J

Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
We’re Powershop customers cos our Tesla charges fm 0000-0400@11.88c/kWh.
For programming the MG, at that rate, I am considering the Zappi wall charger to alternate charging as required.
Any other ideas most appreciated.

Tesla HPWC will charge other vehicles when set to "Legacy Mode". It's a simple matter of switching a dip switch.
Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
Thanks for that Paul......is that easily done or do you need to get into the wall box.
Is it a common practice for members who have, in a sense, strayed ?

Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
I don't believe it will. BUT. Give it a try first and report the results. Same with the supplied UMC's now. Locked to Tesla.
Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
Thanks Richard
I’ll certainly report back (plugshare shows big solar arrays at Bridgwater nr Bendigo powering ccs2 points....amazing)
It just shows you how immature the Australian EV market is when finding out such basic information requires scanning photos of cars using Tesla chargers for compatibility.
Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
We have been told that the associated granny charger has not made the trip out with the vehicles which have arrived at the docks somewhere.
Deliveries have thus been delayed for an expected 2 more weeks.
Has anyone received there car on time ?

Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
When I put the deposit down on mine I was told early December 2020. Actually picked it up mid January 2021. Apparently I was number 98 of the first 100, and the third car picked up from my dealership in Sydney. I got the excuse that it was "stuck at the docks" in December but no mention of lacking a granny charger.
Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
So what charger did it actually have with it, was it the tiny 8 amp ?FyKnight wrote: ↑Tue, 02 Feb 2021, 21:41When I put the deposit down on mine I was told early December 2020. Do you have, or intend getting a wall charger and what brand etc ?

No soup for Chris Vanderstock’s MG ZS EV on newer Tesla destination chargers.
He currently doesn’t have the GS1025 type 2 adaptor

Re: Our second car is going to be the MG ZS EV
These only work when using a portable EVSE. It would be easier to install a 32 amp power point.g4qber wrote: ↑Thu, 04 Feb 2021, 06:50

A type 2 to type 2 adapter with the Tesla switch may be a handy device to carry (or product to make and sell) but I imagine that it would not work with timers, which would also make it not suitable for home charging.

That's actually fine by me, it's very rare for me to drive more in one day than 8 hours worth of charging at 2 kW overnight can replace (about 85 km of range.. 2000*8/183). If I need to charge up faster there are heaps of free charging places in shopping centres around me in Sydney. Of course the ZS EV can only take single phase so 7 kW is the max I can get out of them. The next option is the NRMA's rapid DC charger at 50 kW which I tried to speed-test tonight but it is broken. Good thing I needed to go shopping at 9pm anyway!

So yeah I won't get a wall charger at all unless things change and I need to do a long commute. It'll be trickier though going to my getaway which is off the grid. There are some solar-linked chargers (EVSEs) out there but they don't work how I want them to. So I'm going to build my own — ordered the parts this week.
