Yeah I'm skeptical.
Small SUV styled car?!?
I say it's a hatch back.
I Repeat it's a hatchback.

At least it meets the "S" criteria with 150kW.

Yeah, you don't have to repeat it.
I will though - it's a hatchback.
A very nice looking hatchback that might just fit our needs. As long as it can tow (like the ICE Konas) and as long as the seats fold down to make a flat cargo space (unlike the ICE Konas). We'd be replacing an Outlander, so we'd need to get used to a much smaller vehicle, but we don't really need something that big very often...

yeah as far as hatchbacks go it's ok.
Probably the best electric one anyway.

So as far as I can see the difference between a hatchback and small suv is:
Snub nose
Impossibly small window at the back to make it easier to run kids over
Larger wheel arches
And whole vehicle raised UP 2-4 inches.

And this car will put the biggest dent in all the Model 3 pre-orders that Tesla have in Australia.

If it gets here before the Model 3. Based on past experience I'm not holding my breath!

The Kona will be first if they are both delayed at an equal rate!

Model 3 pre-orders
Well its their own fault for taking forEVER to make them.

But Tesla and Kona would be a different market.
Sure some will jump.
That will come down to:
1. If they had that choice of cars to start with.
2. The "i need it now" generation.

Tesla actually sell EVs in Australia already, and have a history of bringing them here in a reasonable time from overseas release. Hyundai have no track record at all, I hope they really do end up selling their EVs here.

Currently the right hand drive Model 3 is optimistically set for mid next year, I think. But with Tesla lagging behind most production goals for a long time now, I'm not sure if they'll manage to get the car out even then.

Yeah, not expecting the Model 3 any time soon, but information on the Kona's availability seems even more vague.

Hmmm from my understanding that is what they said last year.
Especially annoying when other people get priority rather than when the order was placed.

The delay for places like here and the UK makes sense because it does take effort to rearrange manufacturing from left hand drive to right hand drive.
What I don't like is the prioritisation Tesla has given to people who ordered with all the bells and whistles. Musk has said that Tesla can't afford to go straight to the basic models; so my thought is that if they couldn't afford to make a car that cheap, why offer it that cheap at all?

No shot of the outside while doing it.
So 0-100 in 7sec while off the ground

The rest of the video is of a hatchback slowly driving around out of focus.

Bad cameraman

Iv'e seen people with better footage trying to prove their over unit motor working.

The review or the car?

He spent 1.5minutes as a close up of the bugs on his number plate
Riveting video.

I did like how he showed it can't fit 2 suitcases or 4 boxes of veggies from the market.
Proving my point - hatchback.

Lucky it's electric and has 150kW 8-)
Really they should have called it a "hot hatch".

Anybody know if they will have the matt paint like the veloster?

Who even knows what an SUV is anyway? I notice Toyota's webpage says the Land Cruiser is an SUV - which must upset the Land Cruiser owners who are scathing of SUVs.

At circa $55k (plus on roads presumably) this will I reckon still be a deal breaker for a lot of the punters. I guess once demand drops off after the initial spike from the early adopters then maybe price trimming might start.

More like $50k. I'm sure Leo spun his chocolate wheel at home for those prices.

No we wont. As I have said before Renault and Hyundai in NZ are effectively "franchises" not factory backed like Australia.

Example: 2018 Hyundai Accent Manual Hatch here $18900 D/A. In NZ they are $28990.

Ioniq BEV is $59990 in NZ. Likely to be $40k here....
