The full Hyundai Ioniq range headed down under

Hyundai have announced that all three variants of their Ioniq (Hybrid, Plug in, BEV ) will all be coming to Australia in late 2017. In the US the Hyundai Ioniq is priced lower than the Nissan Leaf. Any thoughts on where Australia. Pricing will be for the pure electric? $40,000 perhaps?

This is a clear message from Hyundai and car manufacturers that the shift to EVs is occurring, fingers crossed the government can provide some sort of support soon.

I know Robert Llewellyn from fully charged really rated the Ioniq, so it will be interesting how it is received here in Australia.

I was thinking we would only get the hybrid and possibly the PHEV. Let's hope the price of the PHEV and EV are reasonable. My next car could be a Hyundai. Image

I note the categories that John includes, but, and I'd like to learn more, Toyota and Mazda don't even make the full range of vehicles, do they?

Where are their EV's?

Who cares about the pinnacle of the past?

If American Audi have told their salesmen to push EV's on an equal footing with the polluters, and if they were told, as I heard from one commentator (not John), that their very existence depends on it, then it would seem that Toyota and Mazda are a bit like Australia. Lump of coal, anyone?

But, unlike Australia, Toyota and Mazda will have some little gems hidden around the corner for when they can't hold out any longer.

The ioniq has battery thermal management which is a plus for me, my 50k km Leaf down to 9 bars now after 3 Sydney summers.

Interesting that Ioniq has both CCS2 and CHAdeMo option. It's up in the air which one we will get....The versions with CHAdeMo have 2 charge flaps for those watching...

I was pleased to see John Cadigan being interviewed on a commercial tv channel about the new 'where is the police radar up ahead' app (it appears John is an app expert and a law expert as well).

What confused me somewhat is that the John I saw is not the John I've seen on utube. Maybe he's an expert dentist as well and we're not allowed to see his face (or maybe we're actually looking at an actor, not sure).

Bevs at the moment are prolly not good value for money. Hence not on jc's recommended list

Looks like a great car to me. If it's well priced it should do well. A balanced package that would satisfy a lot of peoples driving needs.
A small thing i like how the display shows the motor, climate control and electrical acessorys as three separate consumption's . No fancy gimmicks turtles and bars just raw data in a logical format neat and simple.

In the U.S the Hyundai Ioniq (and the other variants of the model as well) are sold with a lifetime battery-failure warranty included in price. The battery pack is warrantied against complete failure for as long as the car remains in service, not that there’s a lifetime warranty for capacity degradation. I am assuming this will also be brought to Australia.

Mate,

Since 2014, you haven't put more than a 1000 km on either of your cars.

You really should get around to updating that.

I would be pleased.

And come to think of it, you put 97 000 Km on one of them in at most 9 months in 2014. Whichever one that is, I should get one of them.


Boys, I invite you all to peruse gb4etc's comments over time.
The Nissan Leaf Forum is a good place to start.
Just read a few and draw your own conclusions.
He's got me thinking.

Hey, I was at the cinema the other day and this expensive longish advertisement came on for the wonderful coal industry.

I thought, you know, coal is obviously the way to go. It's cheaper to dig up and... oh, not necessarily cheaper to burn.

I laughed out loud briefly.

I thought, I'm going to get me one of those petrol burners because it distresses me to see the clouds of stuff puffing out of the diesels when they floor it. I know it makes sense because it's cost effective.

How are the bushfires over in WA? Are they cost effective as well.

If so, that might please John, and agsudf.

Ok, I apologise for misrepresenting his apparent intentions but I'll add that I don't understand his comments :)

I'm already thinking that I've overdone this and so I'll drop it.

I have a wish that he'll stop referring to commercial online enterprises as being relevant to the electric vehicle enterprise.

I do not wish to see this forum as an advocate for the things that must be got rid of, no matter what the financial incentive to carry on polluting the planet, and I'd love to know what his motive is for starting that particular conversation.

I'll tell you now that the small mainstream Japanese vehicles are bulletproof, in general, and are great transport.

But you don't need me to tell you that.

i think Hyundai generally has come along way from the days of the Excel with regards to build quality and reliability. I am really excited for this one to arrive on our shores as i firmly believe it will start bringing EV's into the mainstream. Any guesses on price point? Lower than the LEAF like they have done in the U.S?
