Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid motor

I placed a thread in the technical - motor section as I have a Ioniq Motor here in Perth.
I will be testing this in due course to see what it can do.

I have had issues with photo uploads so hopefully you can see these...

Yep images are visible this time.
Looks pretty compact - what are the plans? Just bench testing or do you hope to power something with it eventually?

Well It's too torquey for my Handi so It's not going in that.
Plus I already have a permanent magnet motor for the Handi.

The controller for my handi motor and Ioniq motor would be nearly Identical.
So I figured I might built 2 controllers.

I do have someone interested in a combo package motor+controller.
Weather they want to use/buy it I won't know until I get it going.

So the motor has no guaranteed destination at the moment.
Plus I can say I have the first in Australia :mrgreen:

Yeah, I can see the photos this time :lol: Is the first photo with the bell housing attached and the second with it removed? In the first photo there is an input shaft and the second quite a large coupling, does the input shaft have a coupling on the end that matches the one show in photo 2?
Or have I got this completely wrong and the photos are from each end of the electric motor?

Ah so the electric motor is the meat in the ICE sandwich.

One side goes to the ICE, the other side goes to the gearbox.
Nothing was removed I just took the photo and flipped it over and took another photo.

I believe the Ioniq has a dual clutch on the gearbox so the splined shaft on the electric motor goes to the clutch on the ICE side.
The coupling side of the electric motor goes to the dual clutch on the transmission.

My thought was to take off the coupler and cover over the back of the motor.
The splined shaft then get a coupling to the gearbox of a car being converted.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Any further progress on this project? I have a Suzuki Jimny that has lunched its automatic transmission and I'm wondering if the added 32kW from the Ioniq to the 68kW @ 6,000rpm ICE motor would give it enough torque to get off the mark/climb the average road hill as a direct drive into the 2nd gearbox that has 2wd, 4wd and low range 4wd.

Currently working on the controller.
Sorting out firmware using a small scale IPM before using the larger power drive.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Short tail shaft between the two from memory ..... just sort of squeezed under it to double check and the tail shaft isn't all that short actually. There would be plenty of room for some form of clutch arrangement between the ICE motor and an electric motor and still have room for the motor and a tail shaft to the 4x4 transfer box. I would need a reverse gear or enough torque in the electric motor when run in reverse to achieve the same result. Might be an issue if the battery pack was fully discharged though because the transfer case does not have a neutral position. If it did I could run the ICE to drive the electric motor in regen mode to put a bit of charge back into the battery pack ...... further investigation required it seems.

Hi Richard, any further progress on this project Ioniq hybrid motor controller or using a higher voltage pack to spin it faster? Just thinking it could be another option for repowering the VW Kombi.

I take it this view is from the back where the the large diameter coupling is rather than from the spined shaft end Image

Just trying to get my head around which end had the ICE motor and which end goes to the gearbox.
