Hi all - if you did not get the notice from Renault Australia - the Zoe AND the Kangoo ZE are now officially available for sale .... so long as you have an ABN that is.

Press release wording below:

Renault Australia is plugging into the Z.E. revolution, with the much anticipated ZOE and Kangoo Z.E. due to hit Australian shores later this year.
Groupe Renault has a ground-breaking Z.E. (Zero Emission) range of passenger and light commercial vehicles. It is the pioneer of all-electric mobility and is the market leader with electric vehicles in Europe.
Renault Australia supports the Alliance’s global position on the benefits of electric vehicles and as such, will bring ZOE, a supermini and Kangoo Z.E., a compact van, to Australia to provide zero emission options for environmentally conscious businesses and local authorities desiring the cleanest possible transport.
Both ZOE and Kangoo Z.E. will be sold directly to customers by Renault Australia to business-to-business and business-to-government customers only for the time being.

ZOE
ZOE is Renault’s innovative, chic and frankly revolutionary 100% battery-electric supermini and its arrival on our shores marks the beginning of a new history for practical, affordable, efficient and environmentally-friendly vehicles.
From its introduction in Europe, the ZOE has delighted over 75,000 customers and is Europe’s best-selling electric passenger car. The Z.E. 40 battery, coupled with a range of on-board technology, delivers the best range of any mainstream all-electric vehicle currently available for purchase. ZOE has a driving range of 400km NEDC or a 300km practical driving range.

Kangoo Z.E.
The Renault Kangoo Z.E. is a pioneering electric van that incorporates a wealth of innovation and has been specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals and their business requirements, alongside environmental targets. Since launch in 2011, Kangoo Z.E. has been the most popular electric van on Europe’s E.V. (electric vehicle) commercial market.
The new Kangoo Z.E. achieves a driving range of 270km NEDC or 200km in real-world driving. Charging the Kangoo Z.E. is fast, easy and its battery can fully charge in as little as six hours. A one-hour lunch break allows for a 35km top-up to your range, helping drivers optimise their working day.

The Zoe Intens will come with all the above equipment plus a reversing camera.
Metallic paint is optional on both variants.

I've been away for the past 3 weeks, but I believe I read somewhere that the Renaults are only available in the Eastern States, can anyone confirm or deny?

Went and visited a Renault dealership in Sydney today to talk about the new EV range and the gentleman wasn't too across this. It is obviously very new and early days so I'm not surprised. Has anyone done a test drive yet? Would be great to hear some feedback.

I know the Vic branch had a field day with it, and Les (Qld) has sat in one, don't know about drives though. With any luck we'll see one in Tassie next month!

Quick answers to both of above posts:
1. Zoe & Kangoo ZE only available direct through Renault Australia, NOT through the dealer network! Details:
http://www.renault.com.au/news/all
and follow the links;
2. In May the Vic group went to Renault headquarters in Mulgrave (Melbourne) to see Kangoo ZE & Zoe. Zoe looks awesome and very comfortable to sit in, but no test drives at the time :(

Cheers

I buy a lot of stuff online, so I've got used to making purchases without feeling the need to touch beforehand.

However, despite this and my passion for EVs, I couldn't bring myself to spend this kind of money without a test drive at least and I believe most car buyers would feel the same. So, either I'll have to wait until a demonstrator makes its way to WA, or gamble an airfare to whichever East Coast city might have one available for test drive. I note that the contact forms at the bottom of the Renault EV web page have buttons labelled "fleet" and "register your interest" (the latter for "electric vehicles for your home") so clearly not yet targeting the private consumer at all.

I still don't understand why they have this restriction. Do fleet buyers need less customer care than individuals maybe?
