iMiev stopped with RR showing 7km's and 2 bars

Post by thardy456 »

Hi
This morning my imiev stopped with 7km's range available and 2 bars? I was 3 km's from home....

The compliance plate says 8/2010. Not sure of the build date? I'm only getting around 60kms of range, do I have any options with warranty?

I don't want to have to pay $200 plus for a tow truck what options do I have? Could I buy / use a cheap 1000w generator like this:
https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-1200w ... r_p0034585 to charge for 30 minutes?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Tony

A lot of those cheap gensets use a modified sine wave not pure sine like you might think. I don't know if that matters to the charger but something to think about

Mine stopped with 7km rr showing once, but it was down to zero bars. I got it home by turning it off, waiting a couple of minutes, turning it on again and going until it shut down. Repeating this over and over got me from 1km away to 50m from home before finally having to push. Not sure if it is harmful to the battery.

Are there any houses in extension cord range you could ask for a top up?

A friend of mine had a battery in similar condition to yours. I suggested investigating replacing bad cells, but instead she traded it in on a diesel Hyundai and got $5000.
I believe EV works in Perth have a second hand battery they can potentially provide cells from, not sure if that is helpful if you are in Melbourne. (our i-MiEV is in WA, but from Victoria).

If you just want to get it home, just flat tow it, in B mode. Use a driver for both cars

Hi all
Thanks for the replies. Good news I managed to get it to a 10amp plug in the street and charged it for 30 minutes to get home. :)

What a pain, well at least I know now to not rely on the RR below 10km, I'll be more careful.

Once a cell drops below 2.75v it's like someone turns off the light switch. Goneski.

That's what has happened.

After 8 years the batteries will be getting on. Unfortunately the replacement pack is worth almost twice what the car is.
