New Outlander PHEV owner

Hi team,

Well I have the EV grin once again.

I am now driving a dealer used Outlander PHEV and loving it.

I have added a nudge bar for my amateur radio antenna. A tow bar, and have a 2nd charger.

I am looking for reasonably priced roof bars at the moment.

The EVBatmon software is fun to see what's going on.

Has anyone tried adding factory front parking proximity sensors?

I am taking my LEAF around Australia starting in May. I will be on air as VK4XJJ when I get my licence re-established.

I'm a nutter traveller and retired techo.The first few weeks saw me taking the new LEAF from the off-grid farm near Beaudesert to Gympie where I have ham radio mates. Then a month later I was off to Newcastle, Sydney, Bathurst, Grenfel and back again. As I say, a nutter☺.

Our Outlander PHEV has the reversing camera and the front parking proximity sensors. The camera is excellent and I wonder how I parked without it now.

However, the front sensors are worse than useless IMHO. They go off randomly when stopped at lights (even if there's no-one in front of you). They go off when you park up close to some bushes or another vehicle or whatever and don't stop when you put the vehicle in "park" (or "accessories" mode) so you can't sit there and listen to the radio in peace without disabling it.

I find myself disabling them most times I start up the vehicle.

Don't waste your money!

Apart from that (and some other minor "first-world" niggles) the PHEV is an excellent vehicle IMHO, enjoy!

What nudge bar did you get? We wanted a nudge bar when we bought ours in December, but the dealer said that they had stopped selling the Mitsubishi one for the PHEV. Something to do with it getting too hot? He said that there are probably 3rd party bars out there to suit, but I haven't got around to looking yet.

We have the tow bar and it tows very well. Have to get used to turning off the rear parking sensors every time you drive with a trailer. You can at least put it into a mode where you don't have to turn them off every time you go into reverse.

Driving around Oz in a Leaf is certainly possible if you've got the time. Sounds like a fun adventure!

If I were needing to fit an antenna again, I would use

one of these

The nudge bar took a whole day to fit with very nervous drilling and cutting after removing the whole bumper

I have since learned it was not offered as an option on the PHEV.

Here are the details. Note the MY 14.5 there is a different part number for a MY14.

Genuine Mitsubishi Outlander nudge bar, brand new in box never been fitted. Part number MZ350512
