Price of Second Remote Key iMiev >$400!!!

Hey guys!

I want to get a second remote key. Both my husband and I have to use the car, he got the non remote one but I have noticed a few small scratches around the door lock...

Anyway I looked at getting him a remote key as well - went to Mitsubishi, and it is about $410 to get a key and have it cut and coded through them. IMHO that is unreasonably high!

Have tried a few local locksmiths who don't do modern car remotes.

Anyone know how to organise a reasonably priced remote key??


On another note, the car is going great! The whole family are in LOVE with it - and I can't believe how lucky I am never going to a petrol station (I hate them, especially the smell). Looking at changing the stereo over soon and will prob get one with a DVD & reversing camera etc. I hope that is a good idea?

$410 is too much and they know it.

Check eBay ' Mitsubishi remote key'
Contact the sellers and see if key can be coded for iMiEV. One of them must be as there is nothing special about the MY11/12 keys.
You will need to visit a dealer with the key and have it coded to vehicle and also a key cutter to cut the blank or fit your existing second key insert if possible. Coding the key only takes a few minutes and is not worth hundreds of dollars.

hmm i was thinking the same thing a couple days ago my 1 year old hid the i-miev keys last Thursday and took 2 days to find it back.

one of the guys i went to uni with got one from the UK he just quoted the number on the key ring that comes with the car and they sent him one already programmed.

just maybe not send someone the code need to create keys for your car and your home address.

Where would I find that? Would it be in the manual??

I'm not sure you are going to find that anywhere.
Mitsu's transponder looks like it's unique to them.

I tried Mr Minute and they said that they definitely couldn't do it, and none of the ebay ones so far have panned out ((((

Looks like $400 it is. What a rip of. That is 1/50th of what I paid for the car. So frustrating.
