Yes steering is heavier with the Conti's.

But after driving on mine for a month or so I really don't notice it now. In fact the steering weight is very similar to my old Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart. Feels good now.

I have also changed my rears to Conti PremiumContact 2's. Slightly more noise but grip and stability has improved.

I must add that it appeared that the inside of my rear tyres was starting to break up. I would recommend that everybody with a 2010 with original rears to consider replacing them. 5 years max for Dunlops regardless of kms.

The pneumatic tyre really has stood the test of time. Quite amazing really.

Guess it shows how ICE world is really, slow to progress.

Just been knocked back twice today trying to get the 155's on the front.

They reckon you need min. 4.5 rims for the 155's to be legal :(

The Imiev's are 4.0 on the front.

Not fair

That sux. I had Jax install 2 for me last week, no questions I just said another owner recommended them. $129 ea fitted (Erina, NSW)

Our full charge RR seems to have dropped however by about 5-10km, I need to check what pressure they inflated them to as I was running 38psi.

PS My daughter is about to do a year 9 science experiment regarding the power consumption of our iMiEV in D/eco/B, with different tyre pressures in the tyres etc (using CanIon to record trip data). I wish it had been underway when I swapped tyres!

Don't know if I would be keen on sacrificing 5-10 km range Image

AC motor believed it made no difference to his range?

They wont sell them to me at all.

I'll keep snooping around.

Not keen on a reduction in range though...

I didn't notice any loss of range with the 155 front tyres.

Nope. No apparent change in range. Actually, why should there be ?
Perhaps in a car park turning but not in general driving.

I run 40psi to try and get ever wear across tyres. See earlier posts. (Started at 38psi)

RR is never a good way to judge energy consumption.
Use canion or measure recharge kWh for km travelled.
The latter simply does not lie.

Tyre shop only has to refer to tyre manufacturer data to see that the iMiEV front rim is correct for 155 tyre.

Agreed, and its most likely due to tyre pressure as tyre shops don't usually inflate > 34 unless you ask.
I really like the 155 tyres so thanks for the recommendation.

This will be useful for my daughters science experiment but I havn't seen recharge kWh reading in Canion, where is it? Or do you mean Wh/km driven or another figure? I was wanting to capture recharge kWh for her and thought I'd need to put an energy meter on the powerpoint which won't be as accurate as Canion.

Didn't notice any range drop going to 155s, no issue at the Bob Jane we got to fit them.
I run at 45 psi

Canion does not give recharge from the power point information.
Use an energy meter at the power point. This gives the completely independent and beyond question consumption from the wall. It is the Wh/km derived from this that allows true comparison between all plug in EVs.

Any recommendations for i-MiEV rear tyres in Perth?
We have a screw in one of the rears, tyre shop won't repair it because it is too close to the sidewall.
I'm now trying to decide whether to
-ignore it and pump the tyre up every week or so.
-do a DIY plug repair
-replace the tyre
-replace both rear tyres

The tyres are dunlop enesave 2030, original tyres with about 25,000 km and lots of tread. Would probably replace with the same if just changing one, but not sure if I want a half worn and a new tyre.
I suspect a plug will do a perfectly good job based on experience using them in on motorcycles a lot more powerful than an i-MiEV, but will probably be sensible and just replace the tyre, so interested if anyone has suggestions for where to get them in Perth. Several people have recommended the continentals for the front, has anyone tried anything different on the rear?

I replaced all 4 tyres on mine. I found the rears were starting to break up internally. I used Continental Ecocontact 2's on the rear IIRC.....same size...

Did you find somewhere that had them in stock or did you have to get them ordered in?

They were in stock at a local warehouse. Ordered and fitted the next day. Note they are noisier that the Dunlops. Grip however has greatly improved...

I just fitted Continental Econocontact 3 on the front. They are available. What a big improvement over the Dunlop's. The I Miev goes round corners without understear. It is like a different car. Can't say I noticed more or less road noise, so I guess it is almost the same as the Dunlop's.

I'm happy with my Continental 2's fitted a couple of months ago. The tyre dealer said he was getting the last 2 in the country, so must have been clearing out stock for the Continental 3's I guess.

I didn't think the iMiEV had much understeer until I took it to Eastern Creek Skidpan a couple of months ago. I had the Continental 2 fitted to the front and stock Dunlops on the rear, even let the front tyre pressure down from 38 to 30 and it still had plenty of understeer on the skidpan. I'd like to try swapping the front & rear wheels to see if that fixes the understeer if I ever do skidpan again (assuming the wider back tyres don't rub when used on the front). Or master a handbrake turn in the iMiEV, anyone tried it?

I decided to just replace the one tyre with an identical Dunlop. The local Kmart Tyre place said they supply them and would beat the tyres.com.au price, so it was about $160. They said they'd order one in, but didn't get back to me and when I called 3 days later said they were on backorder from Japan and would be 6 months.
At this stage the urgency of a reliable replacement was no longer there, and I decided to just plug it myself. So far the plug is working well.
