Should have at least put a fan to move the air inside the box.

Here is another LG 63 44 kWh version. I thought I might be doing something like this next year but it looks like I have just bought a Kona.

Maybe I should have done something like this instead.

If you're interested in upgrading the older leaf batteries - come to AEVA's 2020 EV Vision e-Conference on Nov 27.

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
If anyone is interested in a bulk group buy of 30KWh or 40 KWh leaf batteries and doing some canbus hacking to install them, I'm interested also.
Whilst EV's enhanced are doing the 30KWH conversions in NZ already, it seems to me that the 40KWH conversion is better value in the longer term.
I missed the November presentation unfortunately.
Daniel Oster in Norway seems to be the leaf Canbus guru and has done a 40KWH conversion.
Any thoughts Australia?

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
How much do you think would be a reasonable price for a new pack?
The cheapest we can get new cells is about $300/kWh.
A 24kwh pack would be 7200. A 40kWh would be about $12k just for the cells.
I think if we keep the same BMS module there shouldn't be any need to do any pairing.

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
Hi Francisco. I'm not looking at changing cells, at least not without a purpose built BMS. Not worth the trouble engineering it. My plan is specifically to import a 40kwh battery from an overseas wreck. Same method as ev's enhanced in NZ and Daniel Oster.
After selling my 24kwh pack as parts I figured 10-15k is an acceptable cost.

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
What is the degradation on a used battery?
I was thinking of keeping the old BMS and just changing the cells.

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
I am looking to purchase some of these LG E63A or E63B cells but all the suppliers in china tell me they have not been able to source stock for quite some time. looks like LG can't keep up demand for their OEMs & RESU systems. Anyone had any luck sourcing a similar pouch cell?
I really wanted t0 2P these 63Ah cells to give me 126Ah, 44kW pack.
So far the only option is these A123 WX12I3752 52Ah cells at USD24.20, awaiting sea freight cost

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
Nope - I had enormous difficulty sourcing these cells. I believe China is getting a slap on the wrist for buying Korean and Japanese made cells and selling them on the open market. So they go to great lengths to conceal their manufacture origin.SPanna wrote: ↑Wed, 06 Jan 2021, 13:26 I am looking to purchase some of these LG E63A or E63B cells but all the suppliers in china tell me they have not been able to source stock for quite some time. looks like LG can't keep up demand for their OEMs & RESU systems. In the end I ordered 2300 pieces of Panasonic NCR19650BD cells from a Chinese vendor, who also concealed the origin of manufacture. They tested great, so I'm happy with the purchase.

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
Wow 2300 cells, that sounds like a lot of work compared to 192 pouch cells.
I have just had price confirmation on these A123 3.7V 50Ah cells for Au$36 landed at Melbourne port.
see attached datasheet

Re: Non OEM Leaf battery upgrade?
It is a fair bit of work, but I don't think it will be much more than the work I was headed for with the LG cells.
Those pouches should be fine if they're genuine A123 cells, and a decent price too.

The price of cells is going down so fast that it is best to buy the cells just as you need them.
