Bye Bye Nissan Battery

Nissan is selling off their battery business (AESC) to GSR Capital.
On the plus side it may open the door up for others to get NEW LEAF batteries.

I'd be ecstatic if some bright IT nerd hacked the factory firmware on Leaf / eNV200 and iMiEV to allow fitting a much bigger battery pack.

Yeah changing bits in the code won't change the spec on the electronic parts designed to take a certain voltage and current.
All you could do is double the capacity.
And I'd be surprised if the Leaf etc could suddenly take double the pack size.
Rip out the back seat, fill the boot, upgrade the suspension - oh and change a bit in the code...

It also wont change ugly.
You'd still be driving a leaf or miev.

Interestingly there was another news announcement in the last 2 weeks about Nissan selling out majority share.
So I guess its still happening - just really slowly...
