MY15 Nissan Leaf updates

News trickling out of the US that there will be a battery capacity increase with the MY16 Nissan Leaf which will be available over there around October.

Base model will be 24KWh. 2 higher spec models will be 30KWh. Some styling updates will likely occur similar to the JDM spec model.

This model will sell in Australia if priced "right". Let's hope Nissan gets off the grog and does something about the new model....

Indeed - a 30 kWh battery and a 7 kW onboard charger would be the ducks nuts. Not quite a Tesla 3 competitor, based on styling alone but hopefully it will sell for the right price. No reason why it shouldn't hit the market at AUD$35,000...

Being right hand drive will this be Australia's source?
Will I trade in? Should I trade in? But when my car is out of warranty I could modify!

Oh - to note, it is a "higher" model to the range in England, Acenta, seems to have the extra luxuries the wonderful Japanese model in Australia.

LOL and cost 4 times the same hardware others sell and will have a new model out in 6 months time that costs 20% more and only has different head light bulbs

They have no intention of bringing in Gen 3 approx 250kms range until all old stock is sold. Cant say I blame them for their approach as they lead the way with Leaf in Australia and we just didnt take it up.

Anyone heard this before?

Did he get his generations mixed up? They're still selling gen 1 here and gen 3 won't be out for at least another year. Makes sense they won't bring the gen 2 till the 1 is sold out.

I thought, while there were minor changes each year or two, it was next years 30kWh model which was being discussed as the first major revision of the model?

2010-2012 models are gen 1, 2013 to present are gen 2. There are significant changes internally even though they look the same on the outside. Besides the rumoured 30kW battery upgrade I'm unsure of what other changes are planned for the next LEAF update. I just hope the 30kW battery will be backwards compatible with the gen 1. If I'm really lucky in a few years' time when it's time for a new battery something bigger and better will be out by then.
