I bought a ...... Leaf!

Post by deeru »

Hello Everyone

First post, I bought a Leaf second hand with 18k kms!
I live in Fremantle.

I did install for the moment only a 15A industrial socket in my carport. What are the benefits to install a charging station instead of that?

Just to bump an old thread....
I just bought a Leaf too! Just joined the Forum. Lots of good stuff here. I bought mine virtually sight unseen from a work colleague, who told me it was a 2014 model. Beauty, I thought, all the upgrades! it's registered and insured as a 2014, there's a sticker on the B pillar showing 4/14, but the build date is 04/12. I was a quite peed off, but it's my fault for not checking. Are there many Gen 2 (or 1.5 depending on who you talk to) Leafs in Australia? I read that they were still selling 2012 build Leafs in 2016 here.

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum.

[ Edit: oops, I thought you were asking how many fellow 2012 Leafs there are. If you means how many of the latest batch with 40 kWh batteries, I have no idea. ]
I believe that the 2012 shipment to Australia was well over 100. (Compare that with the first shipment of Tesla Model 3s, about 2000!) But with the total mismanagement of that original shipment, some were sold after sitting idle for years, and a large number were shipped over to New Zealand, where EVs were better accepted, and there was more charging infrastructure. I don't know how many there are left.

That could be true. Mine is second hand, and the original owner bought it in 2015. That meant that the 5 year battery warranty (which starts at purchase, not manufacture or delivery to the dealer) allowed mine to get a free warranty battery in May this year (a month before I bought it). Unfortunately, since yours was bought in 2014, it will probably have the 5 years expired. What was the month of registration, and how many capacity bars do you have?
MG ZS EV 2021 April 2021. Nissan Leaf 2012 with new battery May 2019.

I was actually asking how many 2014 or later Gen 1 Leafs were sold here. I read in another forum that 2011/12 are called Gen 1, 2013/16 Gen 2, and the new ones Are Gen 3. others say Gen 1, 1.5 and 2. I'm new to this so accept my apologies. Anyway, the previous owners of mine replaced it with a new one a few weeks ago.

Mine was sold in April, 2014, so it's out of warranty. The car has less than 33,000 km on the odo and has NEVER been fast charged. The previous owner has only ever used the Chargepoint charger in their garage (which they gave to me as part of the sale). It has 9 capacity bars. We did a 90km journey with no heat or AC on, and were left with 10km range when we got home (accompanied by the dulcet tones of a female voice telling us the battery was low).
I love the car and driving experience that goes with it, and it's usable now, but I fear it will get worse quickly.... I'm eagerly awaiting a 3rd party battery upgrade available in Australia at a sensible cost (am I dreaming?).

Nissan Australia have a $9990 battery swap program but the vehicle needs to meet certain criteria for approval.

On the aftermarket front solutions are available to enable 30 and 40Kwh battery packs to be fitted to Gen 1 Leafs. Yes all 3 battery packs are the same form factor and bolt in. It's the communication protocols that need to be fooled but that's not far off.

? I believe that the ZE0 are the 2010-2012 model years, and AZE0 are 2013-2017 MY.
ZE1 are the 2018 newer style (40 kWh and 62 kWh batteries).

Correct. We never had Australian delivered AZEOs. All the AZEOs here are grey imports.
