Hey there guys just fishing for information on electric conversions on motorbikes.....

any leads
any reccomendations

are they road legal in qld?

If you follow the rules, you can convert/register an electric motor bike in QLD.

QUT converted one a few years ago, not sure if it is still registered.

If you look under the electric bike section in the main forum you will see info on it.

There are quite a few guys doing electric motorbike conversions. Astara Technologies is building a production street legal sports bike in New Zealand-

Daniel Sailer is building a high performance racing bike and there are a few very professional conversions around these days.

I'd still like to do a bike (in Qld). QT has told me that any bike conversion would be an individually constructed vehicle, but that shouldn't make it impossible. Difficulty would be finding an approved engineer who has certified one. Does anyone know any in Qld?

My PROBLEM IS THE ENGINEER! lol they charge way to much to analise your vehicle...

I am crunching numbers and working out the correct gear ratio, My ultimate plan is to try and mate a motor to the exisisting gearbox :D

Have you uncovered any more information on getting a e-motorcycle registered in the meantime?

Like you, I'd really like to do one, but have been put off by the seemingly open-ended costs of compliance, lack of any precedent from engrs, and lack of certainty from QT. I really need a bit more of a roadmap before I plonk down $$.

My favoured config is:
- Suzuki Across (weatherproof fairing)
- Mars ME1003 double-brush motor
- LiPo 72 or 80V x 90Ah
