There is a great instructable on how to make a mini in wheel bldc motor for a razer typr scooter here http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-Yo ... Hub-Motor/ . It would be good to see someone producing these commercially in large quantities. Would have potential to simplify one step further.

Wow that's a lot of work for a little wheel.
So they this did this back in 2009.
4 years on and it still hasn't been duplicated.

In lowish volumes a $250 motor on $50 scooter doesn't seem commercially viable.
You would really have to make 10k+ to make it work.

Small wheel and low RPM - 2kW would not be unbelievable.
