need some help with igbt drivers please

Post by drspastic »

hi, this is a bit off topic because i am building a pump drive for the smallholding but after trying the electronics forums to no practical use, i noticed you guys on this forum are legends in designing your own igbt drives.

cost is an issue and i believe i have most of the parts i need. there are 2 half bridge 600v 100a igbt bricks. there are 4 m57959l hybrid drivers, a pic micro making 50hz spwm and an inverted output.

im pretty experienced in electronics but this is my first time with igbt or high power. i know the drivers will need isolated psu but i need more info on exactly what i can get away with.

of course, its urgent now because my chinese 1500w blew smoke yesterday and now i have no irrigation. opening it revealed 3 caps blown off the pcb and the display pcb regulator a charred mess. also note the pcb said 1000w!

this will all be good practice as i have 3 more even bigger igbt bricks and a saab 9-5 aero with a main bearing crunched just gasping for a 3 phase motor!

Recom make dedicated IGBT driver DC/DC's.
The price difference isn't enough to worry about using the 1W.
Try something like RKZ-051509D
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

thanks but drat! i just ordered these last night before i saw your message:

B1209LS-1W 12V to9V converter DC DC power module converter 1000VDC Isolation

B1215LS-1W 12V to15V converter DC DC power module converter 1000VDC Isolation

i got 4 of each so everything is isolated! or it will be in 3 weeks when they arrive. the ones you quoted look better.

am i almost out of the woods yet though? i have igbt, drivers, psus soon, pic spwm.

Yep that'll work just the same.

4 of each ie isolating only the high side with a spare.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

What are you using for current feed back?
For a cheap drive the ACS756SCA series or similar should be ok.

If you're interested in AC, EV Shop have a tritium 165kva controller with a matching induction motor (4-pole ~70-80kg ish) going for $6k or there abouts
