We have decided to sell our 100% battery electric Mitsubishi iMiEV city car. With both of us now retired and kids left home we can’t justify two cars so easily. We will replace them with one long-range new electric car. We are in Canberra and asking $10,000.

Aside from a few very minor cosmetic scuffs our iMiEV looks and performs as well as it did new. It is white. It is the MY12 version with the three spoke wheels, not the earlier MY10 version identified by seven spoke wheels. The odometer is at 73,074km. It is registered till 12/11/19 and was recently serviced. The battery has gradually lost capacity so its winter range is now about 60-70km and around 80km in summer, driving in Canberra on mostly 80-100kph roads.

The car, as is, remains very usable for commuting, shopping trips etc. It has an excellent turning circle, high seating and good visibility which makes it very easy to manage tight parking. It is zippy, direct and fun to drive. With a big square hatch and the back seats down, it can transport surprisingly bulky objects. It is very cheap to run.

The list price for a new battery from Mitsubishi is $13,683. That would give you the option to put the range back up to well over 100km, if you wanted that. There is also discussion on the AEVA forums about the technical requirements to replace the battery with higher capacity after-market cells for a better-than-new range at a substantially lower cost than the official spare part, but no-one has tried it yet.

Our iMiEV came with the only factory option, an Eclipse brand stereo and sat. nav. that originally cost an extra $2000. We added a reversing camera that integrated with the Eclipse system and rear speakers where there had been covers and wiring in the doors but no speakers. We also got a custom fitted sun shield for the windscreen.

The iMiEV can be DC fast charged via Chademo but we only did this a couple of times to see that it worked. Otherwise, it has an on-board 3.6kW (15A) AC charger for charging at home and at public AC chargers. The Mitsubishi EVSE charge cable has a 15A plug but it actually limits charging to 10A. This is plenty in practice and it can be used in an ordinary 10A power point, safely and legally via a adapter with a 10A circuit breaker.

We have records of its scheduled services including a recent service (26/8/19). It has had the Takata airbag and other recalls done.

Please get in touch privately if you are interested to have a closer look. I am happy to explain anything about it, go for test drives etc.
