Daihatsu Charade EV For a new home Now Sold

Post by solarcoaster »

My 2011 conversion of a 2door red Charade is ready for a new home

144volt Zebo DC series wound motor with Zebo 550amp controller.

45 Calb 90ahr lipo4 cells with evpower BMS straps and BMS.
Comes with a spare motor controller and brushes as well as a spare gearbox.

Registered until March 2019 NSW. Elcon 1500va charger and external 3kva 144volt charger.

I now have a 2012Leaf and the Charade has to go to a new home. The gearbox is noisy but drives ok ...25000EV klms on the battery.
Full Engineering papers $1500 which is rego plus 500!!!!

So that's a working, road-registered, licensed conversion for $1500?? That's a steal if I understand correct. Pretty sure someone over east would be keen.

Yep areal live EV ...it is in Port Macquarie NSW

The car does need the gearbox replacing ...there is a spare and the batteries have reduced capacity . Originally 100k range and more but now down to 60.

Some photos would be awesome - unless you have a build log here on the forum?

Is it registered as a two seater? $1500 sounds like a great deal.

One banana for scale is usually considered sufficient, no need for an entire bunch.

I'm pretty new to all this... what parts could be reused in a classic conversion? Sounds like the batteries are a bit degraded. The motor and controller?

I'm looking for a cheap entry into EVs but I'm afraid my current commute may be too much of a stretch without a battery upgrade.

I may be able to charge at work but my one-way commute is 61kms and the majority of travel is on 110km/h motorway.

What is the top speed of the vehicle?

Top speed currently around 110kph in 5th gear
The zebo motor is quite heavy at 100kg plus and most new conversions would be ac motors
Yes the batteries are used but could be good for home storage. I used the charade for 4 years as a daily 40k each way commute but was able to charge at work .

A replacement pack would probably be $7000 - plus the low cost of the car it would still be a low cost entry to EVs

I've had a look at the EV Power website and notice they only list 100Ah and 180Ah CALB cells. Would the 100Ah cells be a drop in replacement for the old cells or would the dimensions differ?

I also notice they stock NCM chemistry batteries. However I'm assuming these would cost more than the equivalent LiFePO4 due to the improved energy density and would probably need a new BMS.

Rod from evpower could advise but I expect the dimensions may differ. The power density of the calb cells has improved so the space should be adequate. The bms straps may be transferable.please
Note that the car is still driveable but the input shaft in the gearbox is noisy. A spare gearbox and zebo motor come with the car.
