PHEV Prius for sale

Post by PHEV Prius » Mon, 02 Apr 2018, 23:54

Hi,
I'm sorry that I don't have 30 posts or that I'm not a member, but I really have a great car for sale that one of your members would love to have. I have been to a couple of the meetings here in Brissy but just find myself too busy to attend regularly.

My 2008 6.1kW PHEV Prius was converted by PICC (American company now defunct) for a joint CSIRO and VIC power company project researching the effects of PHEV on the energy grid.

I now have it advertised on Carsales.com

Thank you in advance if you allow this post. :)

Could you reply with a link to the carsales ad, please? I can't find it.
Just paste the link as text.
Thanks.

Hi,

the carsales.com link is:

https://www.carsales.com.au/private/det ... 9547/?Cr=0

you can also find it by searching for "PHEV" and sort by price - low to high. Next cheapest PHEV on carsales is a Mitsubishi Outlander for $25,000.

Here is a link to the CSIRO website that talks about the trial which the car was involved in:

This web site for an American installer has some details:

https://lusciousgarage.com/blog/picc_ce ... installer/

Highlights:
  • 168 30 Ah Gold Peak NiMh cells (total 6.05 kWh) replace the standard prius 168 6.5 Ah Panasonic NiMh cells (total 1.31 kWh).
  • Presumably, only a fraction of the 6.05 kWh is usable, for longevity.
  • 40 km all-electric range claimed, when new.
  • 110 km/h maximum in any electric mode.
I assume you lose the ability to store a spare wheel.

[ Edit: no more easily usable internal space: standard hybrid battery is under floor. Perhaps you can access this space via a flap.]

I wonder how they handled the extra weight. Does the prius still have all 5 seats?

All seats are present, however, the middle rear seatbelt has been removed. No modplate required.
The suspension has been upgraded improving the handling of the car. Handles better than my other Prius.
Spare tyre sits in the back, being a spacesaver tyre it sits low and doesn't take up much space.
What I love about the car is it's flexibility, short trips can be made in all electric mode, or slightly longer trips with more economy using the "blended mode", and we can still drive to Sydney on one 45 litre tank of petrol.

If the battery might need to be replaced soon, how can that be done? I presume they are not an off the shelf thing anymore.

The cells are the same as those used in the Vectrix. 30Ah Nimh prismatics made by gold peak. They're probably similar vintage, but I have around 1000 cells sitting in my shed
