What's replacing it? I thought you'll keep this forever?

Hi Mark, shipping a car from Perth to Melbourne isn’t too difficult- it takes about a fortnight via rail. I have used CEVA and cost was around $850 last time although it can vary depending on fuel levies.

What is that display of battery condition (second and third pix) in the first post? How can I view it for a vehicle I want to buy?
cheers

Canion
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... n&hl=en_SG

EVBatMon
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... V&hl=en_SG

I used to have
https://www.scantool.net/obdlink-mxbt/
Bluetooth OBDII dongle

but now use
STN1170 Bluetooth OBDII Adapter for Canion
http://ahdesign.us/blog/stn1170-bluetoo ... i-adapter/
no longer sold

jaycar dongle for EVBatMon
https://www.jaycar.com.au/obd-ii-engine ... y/p/PP2145

I prefer convenience over security. With Scantool dongle you need to pair to a specific device.

To expand on Joseph's post. Both are screenshots from android apps that connect to the car via a bluetooth obd dongle. They are not accessible from the car itself.

My impression is that the Canion is very picky about what bluetooth dongle is required, even with a recommended dongle it wouldn't stay connected very long on mine.

Evbatmon works with the cheaper locally available Jaycar dongle, so probably more practical for just checking a car.

It still has it's issues though. If you decide to try it be aware that it's default set up is in emulator mode, so it will appear to be getting a battery reading but it is not actually connected to the car. Seems to often require multiple restarts to get configured, and then gives me an OBD error when it does finally start working. It can be a bit frustrating getting it to work on your own car with plenty of time, and knowing it worked before, so I can imagine trying to get it set up for the first time on someone else's car while they wait could be quite a test of patience.

First thing to try would be to see if the car's current owner already has one of the two options set up.

Part of my problems may just be my car though, canion certainly seems to work better on my father's 2012 than my 2010.

If you are intending to buy the car it is nice to have these working, so may be worth the cost to get the dongle etc before buying. Or perhaps you can find someone local with the dongle and software who can help out. I suspect you are too far away for Joseph to help now his Tesla is out of action.

Even if Joseph still had his Tesla, it would take him a few days to get there, I see Tony is in Sydney!
