[SOLD] FS 2001 VW Polo Conversion (leaf batteries)

Post by alexeiw123 » Mon, 20 Nov 2017, 08:31

SOLD

Item: 2001 VW Polo Conversion
Original conversion shown here: http://www.evalbum.com/3577

Since owning this car I have removed the CALB cells and replaced with 40x leaf modules connected 20S2P. So individual cell configuration is 40S4P.
120Ah. So about 18.2kWh. New cells have Batrium BMS installed, have also changed the GPO charge port to j1772, which works with EVSE/public charging at 15A.

152V nominal, 164V at full SoC.

Everything else is as per EV album - I can update with pics as time/interest permits.

Note that this car is engineered and registered as a 5 seater, with power steering, air conditioning and a functional boot, all while keeping the factory look and feel of the interior. All gauges work, including SoC on fuel gauge and current on temperature gauge.

Location: Port Macquarie

Item Condition: Registered until 31/08/2018
converted at 162,959km
leaf cells went in at ~210,000km (I should have recorded this somewhere)
Currently at ~220,000 km
New tyres ~90% tread
Drives brilliantly
Interior upholstery condition needs love.

Reason for selling:
Growing family coupled with increasing work and uni commitments (thesis to write) has left no time or space for a project car.
I can't put baby seats in this car and it's become too much of a juggle working around this.

Price: $7000, considering offers
Note that leaf cells and BMS were $7900 on their own, so it's very good value.

Extra Info: BMS has infrequent false alarms that require resetting a cell or re-flashing settings. I haven't figured this one out but also haven't invested much (any) effort in it. It drives fine but needs a bit of extra attention until that is fixed.

I haven't got around to having insulating covers made to cover the terminals of the leaf cells which it needs from a safety point of view, I have just run out of spare time and space to get this done. I will still do this if the car doesn't move soon.

There is a small 12V battery drain that I haven't had the time to track down. Could be solved by running the DC/DC during a charge, and of course finding the source of the 12V drain.

Have stacks of information, build photos and videos stored on google drive which will of course come with the car. Also a box of various polo bits including the clutch pedal and cable if anyone ever wanted to put the clutch back in.

Car is garaged inside at home and at work.

Pictures: album here: <removed>
Will add up to date photos to this album when I have time to give the car a good wash in and out. Ask me if you'd like to see something specific.
Note that the 'Voltswagen' sticker is not on the car anymore.

Call me on <removed> to discuss

Siemens Versicharge 7.2 kW EVSE is available to go with the car too. VC30GRYU.

Car can charge from a 15A GPO or from the EVSE - but it's nice for compatibility with other EVs.

Hi @Kate at Svelto Bikes - my phone number is listed in the first post. Curiously, in the past I've received reply emails but I received none for this thread, or your private message. I will check my settings are right, or maybe it got lost in the spam emails that i frequently clear out. However at this stage, the car is considered sold pending pickup (tomorrow).

Edit: My profile settings had email turned off - all fixed.

Private Messages, until they are read by the recipient, stay in the outbox. It's unfortunate naming, some would say misleading. So "outbox" should be called "unread messages" and "sent messages" should be called "read messages" (or similar).
