Electrolux for sale

Post by antiscab » Sat, 18 Oct 2014, 22:22

Hi Guys,

I never did find the time to do anything with the Hilux, originally converted by a4x4kiwi

It's now taking space in my shed that I need for prius pojects.

To recap, it has:
1 x ABB 15kw 4-pole induction motor mounted directly to the diff
1 x danfoss VLT 5042 50kVA vfd

I will be including a EMW PFC charger kit - my plan was to modify it you use the boost PFC stage only to charge up to 900V using the VFD's internal caps and heatsinks

I will also be including the 600 x 1.2v 30AH Nimh batteries I was planning on using with in the conversion

The conversion does come with the engineering certificate original obtained by Mal - this covers the motor, and battery mounting (as long as you keep it in the tray)

There will be a fair amount of work involved in getting the battery in, but the bits are all there

not sure what it is all worth, but if you are looking for a project, this one might be for you

Give me an idea of what $$ you are looking for and how much to get it back over this side of the country. I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing it when 4 x 4 Kiwi put it up for sale, I just didn't have the confidence or any understanding of EV at that stage. Still not sure I have the knowledge but I'm feeling a little more confident

I'm kicking myself to buying it to be honest, I have soo many projects on the go

I was hoping for $4k for the lot (batteries, charger kit and ute)

shipping it over here cost me $1500, but I think it's cheaper if sending back over east

Is this similar to the Tesla battery pack? They use Ethylene Glycol I believe to temp control their battery pack and I believe Nimh cells are temp sensitive when it comes to charging and discharging. I believe there is an issue with another vehicle manufacturer using a similar battery technology but not using temperature control with their battery pack and they are experiencing capacity reduction, so would I need to design a battery pack heating/cooling system if I went ahead and used these cells?

Hi Terry,

These cells originally came from Vectrix scooters, which were indeed suffering capacity loss due to poor battery management (including temperature management)

part of the problem was the cells were being charged quickly (which heated them), being overcharged, and then left warm at full charge for long periods

my long term plan was to make battery boxes for under the tray (keeping the battery out of direct sun light, but needing a new engineering cert).
I wasn't going to go beyond fan cooling

for a nominal 720v pack, charge rate was never likely to be a problem (6A or less is ideal, but that's near 5kw and less is better)

overcharge is easier to avoid if not charging quickly

If it didn't work I was going to go lithium later on

bump

looking for any offers on this - the ute just takes up space in my workshop now

It'd be great with ~90 x leaf modules :D

Hi Antiscab,

Would you consider selling the batteries on their own?

Regards,

James

Sure, I'm happy to do that

The batteries aren't actually in the ute, so very easy

I'll PM you with more details
