Re: Brendon_m Moke
Getting up Kalamunda hill might be too much of a test. Well, at a speed that doesn't hold up traffic anyway. At least I'd have regen coming back down...

Re: Brendon_m Moke
I am starting to worry about how much power the Pajero will need at 100kph.
Re: Brendon_m Moke
I'm sure the pajero will be more aerodynamic, it'll be hard for it to be worse.
Well I got home from @jonescg 's house. It took 51% of my usable capacity to go up the highway at 80kmh and then get up the hill but between regen and coasting and sticking to more 60kmh back streets with a shorter run on the highway I pulled back into home with 22% remaining.

Re: Brendon_m Moke
The pajero is 2400kg, has 4 really wide high profile tyres, two right angle diffs and a limited slip diff on the back. The back is also very square.
So I am starting to be (very) concerned. I am just hoping that the 60kph consumption will not be too high.

Re: Brendon_m Moke
Did some rudimentary weighing last night with the new bathroom scales. (don't tell my wife)
The weights are still a bit lopsided and I'm putting that down to not having the car perfectly level. But still the numbers are rough enough for now. Once I get closer to licencing I'll get it weighed proper.
In the mean time its
LF 185.5kg RF 215.1kg
LR 137.8kg RR 122.2kg
Total weight 660kg
The original weight was 626kg as I weighed it
And the official weight in the manual is 660kg.

Yeah, but it was probably down 2 kgs of oil to start with...

That's unfair, those oil leaks are factory fitted.
Re: Brendon_m Moke
I went to a weigh bridge this morning
I'm pretty happy with my crude measurement of 660kg.
The official weights are -
380kg front
260kg rear
640kg total
Original tare is 660kg so I'm under weight
Max gvm is 1004kg so if I ever wanted to upgrade to a 4 seater in the future I still can
In other news I've done a brake test with the engineer now and he said "you're using a lot of force on the pedal but they should be good enough". Which for a moke must mean they are better than factory

Re: Brendon_m Moke
You can add another 20kg worth of batteries.
Re: Brendon_m Moke
Technically I could stuff an extra 200kg of battery in.
1004kg GVM, less 640kg of car and 164kg of people/luggage gives me 200kg spare
The current cells weigh 140kg so if I could find room I could easily double the range. And if I replace all the cells with new undegraded ones I'd double the range again. Not to mention new cells could be both lighter and smaller.

But like my scooter - just cause you could go further on it, doesn't mean you'd want to...

Finally got a trendy piece of paper today
All went smoothly except the inspector spent a long time looking at the slop in the steering (combination of tie rod ends and the rack itself). I was certain it was going to be a fail but one other the other inspectors who has owned mokes took it for a drive and said "nah, it's actually really good and tight when you compare it to other mokes..."

Haha, it's all relative isn't it
Nice work, and great to see the tally of conversions in WA now at 54.

@brendon_m , congrats mate, I didn't realise you were in Perth. I'd love to see this in the flesh one day. I have aspirations in doing something to a similar platform.
Re: Brendon_m Moke
Thanks, all going to plan I'll be bringing it to the Christmas gig

Re: Brendon_m Moke
Congratulations on getting from start to registered on the road in 2 1/2 yrs. Lots of one off designing and manufacturing involved so it wasn't a drop in my any stretch of the imagination ....... a great achievement
Have I thought about doing one as well, most certainly, will it ever happen, extremely doubtful
6 mths off senior pension age and working harder now than I have for a long time and not seeing any income means projects are getting cancelled at a rapid rate, so another project just won't happen unless things change in the very near future .... with my wife being the boss lady, how likely is that going to happen .....

Re: Brendon_m Moke
The biggest hold up for me was trying to get time to work on it between full time work and kid's. Oh, and my wife hates the car so it's hard trying to convince her about anything to do with it

Re: Brendon_m Moke
She doesn't think it's safe, my argument is that it has a roll bar and her car doesn't therefore it's safer than her car
.
Also the one time I got her in it for a drive she didn't like the wind yet she wants a convertible
