I weighed each corner of the car, and will do it again when I finish getting the other bits out to calculate the difference. It wasn't that heavy, alloy head and sump, we lifted it with fairly small d-shackles and chain and they were fine. I had the luxury of a neighbour who is a plumber on large things and he has a crane on the truck. He mentioned it was for lifting 300kg electric pump motors!

Any plans on what you want it to do?

Yes, and not my friends suggestion of using it like a flintstones car :)

I've finally arrived at a configuration, following the typical E30 builds that EVWorks have done before including viewtopic.php?title=lead-wings-bmw-e30&t=2437 as I have very similar requirements.

I'm running with Zeva stuff for controls and monitoring, I like the idea of CAN bus and I like the simple display and control solution, no cooling and developed in Aus. This is the basic spec:

- Warp9 and Zeva 1000A controller, direct drive
- 160Ah 144v Winston pack, Zeva BMS
- Zeva Core and Display
- Power steering pump
- Reverse cycle air con

About to order the first bits and pieces.

Been a while, went in a different direction but still not much done yet. At least I have the power plant, some of you may recognise these.

About to kick off this project again, I think the first logical step is to mount the motor and controller. Here's a very basic diagram of where I think I am going with it:
motor-mount-diagram.jpg

This is a side view, I am looking at getting the engine bay scanned and something done up in CAD. I imagine the blue bit to be laser cut something like Ian Hooper did with his RX7 or the EV West VW subframe.

The car has a two piece prop shaft already, and one of Leadwings complaints was not including the rubber flex disc (called it rubber coupling in the diagram) in the prop shaft which caused vibration. The new prop shaft bit would have a female spline to match the motor, and male on the other end to match the splined coupling that came off the gearbox. I think I would have that gearbox coupling welded in place on the new shaft spline.

It looks like I can buy a heavy duty flex disc, which I think is a good idea given over 600Nm of torque. I think the bearing carrier is essential for the prop shaft so it acts like the gearbox and motor did. I'm looking at high performace poly mounts for the engine and gearbox original mounting points, I am keen to use whatever original moutings I can, not so much to be able to pull it back out (that will NEVER happen) but to not have to cut or weld to the chassis.

Any suggestions would be most welcome :)
