Its been some time since my last post but the work on MR02EV has continued regardless, the latest upgrade being a TDC-320-12JG DC-DC converter from TC Charger, supplied by Elmofo.com.au
Over time I have used several DC-DC converters and the TDC-320-12JG is by far the best. Its is not the cheapest by is very high quality and has a reputation for reliability.

Nice one! I got the air cooled one for the Prelude conversion. If ends up running too hot I can always swap the fins for a cooling block.

Upgrading The 12V Ancillary Battery
When installing the TDC-320 DC-DC converter I also replaced the 12V ancillary battery with a Drypower 12SB22C 12Volt 22Ah battery. I chose a sealed lead-acid because they are designed for a trickle (or float) charge, which is most of its life in MR02EV.
22Ah is a significant increase in capacity over the previous 15Ah auxiliary battery, which was deliberate. MR02EV needs a pretty “stiff” 12V supply to keep the electronics happy especially at night, in the rain, when the wipers and lights are on. I suspect a contributing factor to the premature death of my last two DC-DC converters was the lack of a decent 12V battery to buffer the effects of short, sharp 12V loads.
