Hello from Perth
Hello from Perth
Hi there,
New to the forum.
Just wanting to learn with the hope to dream of building an electric car.
Then maybe one day build one
I've noticed that even though I've registered, my account is quite restricted. I can't search or view pictures attached to post...
Cheers,
Fred

Hi Fred,
Welcome to the forum! Our first WA branch meeting for the year is in February at UWA. Hope to catch you there!
The image thing is frustrating, and we're steadily working on it. Hopefully it's rectified soon.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Hello from Perth
Thanks for the welcome Chris. Just spent some time reading your post on your race bike. Very inspirational stuff. I'll keep an eye out on the details of the meeting and see if I can make it or not.
Cheers,
Fred

Re: Hello from Perth
Those restrictions should only apply to your very first post. I just tested, and I believe you can attach images now. Just drag suitably sized (not megapixel) images from a file explorer to the edit window, click the mouse cursor where you want it to appear, scroll down and click on "Place inline".
It's all part of the hassle of trying to keep spammers away. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks Mike, seems to be working now.
Re: Hello from Perth
I have just found a candidate for an electrification project...
I'll be taking inspiration from @brendon_m 's Moke.
All going well, I'll be taking delivery of it in Feb.

Re: Hello from Perth
Nice, looks like it's in need of a bit of tlc, or a wash at the very least. Anything majorly wrong with the mini?
Re: Hello from Perth
It need lots of TLC.
- There are holes in the chassis - usual areas of rust (floor pan etc) + dodgy repairs
- Electrical gremlins - ie no ignition barrel. Cranks over, but doesn't stay running.
- Clutch cyclinder seized
- rubbers need replacing
The upside...
- rolling
- registered
- reasonable price
- it's a wagon... (so hopefully more space for batteries)
- it's a mini
I'm keen to hear from you @brendon_m what I should budget for the conversion... need to run it by the CFO....

Re: Hello from Perth
My moke cost me about $9000
$4000 for the motor and controller kit (don't know if my motor/design will work in a mini directly as apparently the engine bay is narrower)
$2500 for 2nd hand imiev battery
$1000 for licensing/engineering etc
$1000 for BMS,dcdc, chargers etc (more needs to be spent here for a daily driver)
$500 for other bits and pieces
$0 labour
Then I had about another $1000 in fixing up brakes and body work etc.

Thanks @brendon_m
I'm looking at ditching the mini transmission case and trying to get my hands on something like this: I like the simplicity. Looks to be single gear reduction and diff. It's from an Eletric Smart Fortwo.

Re: Hello from Perth
If I were to do the moke again I would definitely go that way about it. I think either an imiev/outlander motor or a motor from a Prius wouldn't have been a better way to go. The gearbox is just too noisy and I wish had gotten rid of it.
