Yes I can agree with it not being a very practical solution. Wouldn't recommend it to most. But perhaps a good challenge - adventure for people who like to do things different . Just like it isn't fun hanging around while your ev is on charge in public but some times it's worth the hassle just to do somthing beyond the normal limits in your ev.
I think a 4wd with a 80 - 100km range and some pv at home to charge it is the more sensible option.
Though I'm after a challenge and light weight thin flex able pv at reasonable costs has made it less challenging.

Ok so we agree solar can be done but not practical.
In 3-4 years it might be 1-2% more practical
On the note of the batteries in the trailer.
Lets say you have another $10k worth of batteries mounted in a trailer.
You pull it out once a year for a holiday.
After 10 years the batteries will probably be pretty crap and a write off.
So your holiday is costing an extra $1000 for batteries.
Not economical or practical either.
Renting a car for that purpose would be cheaper.
If you have plans to use it every week it would be more cost effective.
But I would suggest moving...
I have no issue with the 4WD ev.
But then again with 100km range or 60km if you actually go 4WD'ing.
Sounds an expensive way to have a bit of fun.

So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Yeah, I'm thinking a better solution for what I want to do would be to get the motors and batteries from an Outlander PHEV and sticking it into a triton or Pajero. Probably around the same cost. Or maybe a "toughing up" of the outlander, because it's a bit soft.
As for my original idea... I think it'd be a good mental exercise, getting the weights and power all worked out, but to do it properly you'd have to pretty much do a complete custom job on it. Hilux chassis with an aerodynamic fibreglass (or carbon, because stuff it if we're dreaming why not dream big?) shell, batteries and high performance PV built in, towing a low-drag composite trailer with a big, big PV array and as many batteries as can fit. And then, maybe, you'd be able to do 500km every second or third day. All for the low cost of a small country!!
If you look up solar trailers there are some interesting things online.
On a side note, I still want to build an electric car as a "work bitch". Donor depends on what i can get my hands on, 100km range, and a few solar cells on the roof to charge up during the day (~9 hours).

Now your talking
On a side note I did look up some solar trailers.
Under "Customizing" there is a vehicle that has about capability you asked for.
