70 mph Prius - Wakefield followup

Post by gannet »

Hi,

one of the topics discussed at Wakefield park today. Said I'd post some links here, so hope they are found.

70 mph Priuses ie, extra batteries, and software changes so it will run electric only for faster and further. I know some extra battery options are available here in Aust. but the higher speed option? I don't have the expertise ( or the nerve) to try it myself.

There's the Ewert -
http://www.ewertenergy.com/
... they have the Youtube video embedded.

And another video shows up, this with good spoken explanations.

Great day at Wakefield BTW, I'll let the experts post the details.

Sounds like NilCO2 are developing a very similar kit using the Orion BMS. Is not yet available but I understand that it's not far way, but costing around $13k+ for the 14kw LifeMnPO4 HV batteries/Orion kits installed. A larger 26kW kit will also be available. I think I'll stick with the K40 kit for the moment.

Will have to look at what the Orion BMS is about...
AFAIK, currently NilCO2 use the Enginer kit, http://www.enginer.us/
Supposedly OK up to 70kmh, but it seems you need to drive like a snail to stop the ICE cutting in. I think a local has one fitted, I'm keen to talk to them.
Higher speed would be great. Maybe regen to charge the extra batteries as well? I'm keen to see what they come up with.

The Orion BMS is described in the Ewert weblink that you listed earlier. Apparently, with the Orion BMS, you don't need to drive like a snail to stop the ICE from kicking in (unlike the Enginer kits).

Apparently NilCO2s new kit using the Orion BMS has no involvement with Enginer. However, NilCO2s smaller and cheaper 2 to 8 kWh kits are from Enginer.
