Quant 48VOLT

Post by Richo »

Well I don't know how legit this is but the specs and innovation are impressive.
The Quant 48V only uses 48V fuel cells so no dangerous voltages.
4 x 45-Phase motors 140kW each for 560kW.

Although it would require refueling infrastructure it definitely could be a contender against BEV's.

So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

Hmmm. 480kW (just assuming a bit more) at 48V - that's 10,000 Amps.
Yeah - that's OK. Silicon losses - I guess MOSFETS.
Dunno - I don't believe it.
Either false or some trick of the marketing dept. Maybe all the flow cells are in series and the rest is internal miscommunication.

Sounds like it. Maybe, just maybe, the journalist's source mistakenly sent him the 48V standard instead? 48V Standards

Well from the motor point of view it's plausible.
140kW with 45 phases is 65A per phase.
So a 3mm ali rod per phase Image

Yeah the 10kA from the fuel cells is questionable.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

I still think 48V is a bit low.
I was playing with a 60V pack this week and purposely touched each terminal to see at what point it was "uncomfortable".
Even at 60V it was not an issue.
I guess if I was pissing out blood from my finger while doused in petrol I'd think twice about touching 60V.

Still even if they did bump the Quant up to 96V that's still 5,000A+ Image
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.
