Just thought that you guys in NSW would be interested to know that the committee of the NSW Hillclimb series have approved electric vehicles racing in their championship. Apparently there is a CAMS committee based out of SA looking at rules etc. he're trying to get a prize pool together for the first electric car to set the FTD (fastest time of Day) at a round.
Interesting. Either google the series and follow the links or get this week's Auto Action magazine, which carries a small (very small!) article on this development...

Ah this is a step in the right direction! Now all we need is someone to build a properly high performance EV to compete with..
Any idea how long the typical hillclimb stages are?

Last round for NSW is Round 7, 5th October at KEP (King Edward Park, Newcastle?)
HillClimb NSW has more info on joining.
Tracks are mostly under 1km, but longest is 3 km.
Looks electric-ready, I'm not sure Kearon will be finished in time for this year
cheers,
Woody

I figured we start with a kart-based vehicle and work up from there. Anyone say twin etek kart with both motors on 48V?...

Collingrove Hillclimb here in SA is around 600m. The record is 29.45 seconds in a supercharged VW engined special. Some street cars are sneaking under 40 seconds.
Always liked the idea of an EV hilclimber

I'm currently working on a electric hill climb vehicle. It is a single seat space frame running a direct drive impulse 9 motor zilla z1khv controller and 180v odyssey pc680 pack. total weight of 500kg. I have had a few problems within my system but hope to have them ironed out soon.
