Was the fan bit a pun

I don't get it - what is the purpose of the fans?
Seems more for show.

There has to be something beefier than 10kW already around.

Yeah I rode an electric kart with 40 kW. It was batshit crazy fast. Traction limited!

The ducted fans are a bit silly... No idea what they are trying to achieve there.
I challenge you to come up with a better invention than the bicycle

As you said once you get to a certain power level the traction will be a problem.
So the fans don't contribute to the traction issue as the opposing force is on the air.

Given a tyre diameter of 280mm - 100kph is 1895RPM.
10kW at 1895RPM is 50Nm or 360N of force.
Probably closer to 280N with losses.

They claim 60kg (600N) of thrust from the fans which is about double the motor on the wheels.

They pull nearly 2G getting to 100kph.

Maths makes it seem more impressive - well to me at least

edit - now i have to learn the emoticons :(

100m hobby EDC is $187 and 5kg of thrust 4.8kW.
So you would need 12 fans $2,244 to get 60kg of thrust - but 60kW of battery power. About 25C on the 2.4kWh pack!

Can't see a backyard build of same performance costing $80k.
More like $10k-15k.
So you could do it cheaper yourself.
