After ringing around a few metal recycling places, I've discovered there is a company local buying all dead batteries from recyclers (including all lithium and nimh)
The going rate seems to be $0.40/kg - I got that at hills recycling in Mundaring, and today at WA scrap metal in Kelmscott (a few 100kg each time)
If you have dead batteries in your shed, it's finally the time to get them recycled
