Great it is working, but you could really do with a notice on the front page of the forum to let people who haven't been following this thread know why the forum looks funny and they can't log in anymore.

Yes, I've been hunting for a way to do that. Haven't had much time to research it until now, but will try and get something up there today.

Also, I notice it doesn't highlight whether or not there's new posts in a thread. Not a big deal regardless.

Yes, the old version of phpBB used to do that.

The equivalent functionality is now in the little Quick Links menu near the top left of the page. One of the menu items that drops down when you click the 3 horizontal bars is New Posts and another is Unread Posts. A bit too subtle for my liking, but it's there when you know where to look for it.

so I never normally see the index page.

Just noticed that all my subscriptions (New post => email) disappeared - I have re-added (click the link at the bottom of each forum page). Not sure how many were subscribed by email, it's not normal but it works for me :-)

Hmmm, I'd converted over the Notifications data, but obviously something didn't work properly, I'm sorry about that it was obviously missed in testing.

That was why we asked people to check things in the Test Forum before going live, but I guess it's impossible to test everything. I can take a look at the data we transferred across and see if you missed any of your previous notifications. Maybe I'll also be able to work out why the conversion of Notifications didn't work and fix that retrospectively.

I also notice that your Avatar is broken. I'll fix that while I'm messing around in the database

OK, I just checked up on this. The way subscriptions worked in the old forum is a bit different from the way they work here so I wasn't able to translate everything over. Here, you define things you want to subscribe to and you also define how you want to be notified about them.

If you check out the Overview Tab of your User Control Panel, you'll see six tabs across the top and more down the left hand side. Two of these are relevant, one down the left hand side of the Overview, and one under the Board Preferences tab on the top:
  1. Firstly, all your old subscriptions should be listed under the Manage Subscriptions tab;
  2. Then you click the Board Preferences tab at the top and the Edit notification options tab down the LHS and then use the tickboxes to indicate whether you want to be emailed about things, or just notified when you log in to the forum.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, I think I have that bit under control now, but the emails don't include the posted message.
Would it be possible to install/enabl Prime Notify or a similar MOD to do this?

I agree that was a useful feature and it would be good to have it in this forum.

I am hoping to avoid/minimise Mods as far as possible as in my experience they can be buggy and can complicate forum maintenance. My first mission will be to see if we can enable this functionality without adding a Mod. If we have to add a Mod, I'll try and select one that's robust and does just what we want and no more.
Cheers,

They're anything I choose to make them

But what I've done so far is:
  • AEVA members (blue),
  • Moderators (green),
  • Administrators (violet).

The mod I linked seemed pretty mature at first glance (been around 10 years but update in the last couple) buttotally agree with your thinking.
Not fussy about colours but
I'd say green = newbie (greenhorn etc)
blue = member is fine (maybe black = normal)
yellow? white? = moderator
purple = admin is fine (regal)

Green for a mod is what I'm used to on the Endless Sphere forum. I think indicating who is a financial member of the association is a nice touch, even if it's not necessary (look at that pleb - he's not a member!) Just kidding. We're all cool.

IIRC, Green was the default for Moderators. I added the other colours.

Happy to make changes that make sense (and Woody's suggestions do have a certain logic to them) and that a reasonable number of people agree on. Trouble often is that people who care about colours often care a lot about them, but in different directions.

So, if you care about what colour your login identifier appears in, let's hear from you :!:

Yes, I agree it looks very mature and well-regarded. Unfortunately, looking through the discussion pages for it, it doesn't yet work with our version of phpBB (which is the latest version: 3.2.1). Version 3.2 evidently strongly encourages "extensions" which I gather are "bolt-on" rather than "burrow-in" and therefore should be safer. I'll keep my eyes peeled because, like you, I like that functionality.
