This is an interesting article on the reseources that go into global Li-ion battery production, and how much it costs. Interesting to see that recycling will easily provide the bulk of the resources into the future; a ton of recycled lithium batteries might cost you about $5000, but there's a lot of copper, aluminium, cobalt, nickel, iron, manganese and lithium in them thar cells.
