Charging while driving

Post by Richo »

So Qualcomm are testing DEVC - Dynamic electric vehicle charging.
They are trying to charge an ev at 20kW while it's driving at highways speeds.

Not too sure if they are intending this for racing or public use.

I guess it's early days for this but would be pretty good for highways.
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.
Help prevent road rage - get outta my way!

And what about charging efficiency?

I didn't realise we had electricity to throw away...

Seems to be similar to the Dutch experimental road charging from some four years ago?
The solar road in the Netherlands is working even better than expected:

May 11, 2015 - The Netherlands made headlines last year when it built the world's first solar road - an energy-harvesting bike path paved with glass-coated .

As far as I can tell, the Dutch system is just solar panels in the roads, exporting to the grid. I don't see that they are attempting to charge vehicles with the power collected, or any other power source.
