Exide Deep Cycle Batteries

Post by EVnovice »

Hi

Has anyone had any experience with Exide's deep cycle battery (a replacement for Trojan 105 batteries)?

Regards

try sending a PM to RobM, or Ron, or rod dilkes.

those are about the only guys here who have used T105s in a conversion, but they aren't online very often.

no worries,

just checking, it is for an EV application right?

if it is (and you have your heart set on floodeds) look for batteries all from the same batch, with a build date not more than 6 months old.

go around with a carbon pile.
allowing the battery to sag to 5V, they should put out ~900A when they are reasonably well charged.

the reason this is necessary is the way flooded lead acid ages.

in addition to the secondary reactions that already to cause balance problems in all lead acid varieties, flooded lead acid also forms internal shorts as the plates disintegrate over their lifetime.

applications where long life is required more than energy density overcome this by having the plates suspend some way above the bottom of the cell. (think forklifts where the ballast weight has to be ~2000kg anyway)
